I have an MOT coming up next month, looks like it going to be a fairly costly one too....

Looking at the previous advisories the brakes need to be changed (disc’s + pads, front + rear) I am also going to need 2 front tyres and may be a brake hose….

Can anyone tell me how much the brakes are likely to cost?

While at kwikfit last week (getting 2 front tyres from the mrs car) I asked the dreaded question and he replied “oh that’s not gong to be cheap mate” he mentioned around £460.00…..
Without the brake hose…..is this a competitive cost?
Or could I get it done cheaper else where?

I can get the tyres for £130 for the pair on the internet (18’s)

i paid around £250 inc labour for (disc’s + pads, front + rear), oil, oil filter, pollen filter, and some other bits small pully and belt - friend who is a merc specialist based in nuneaton, think the brakes were around £70.

wow, thats a hell of a lot cheaper!
Any one know of a garage in the south wales area that could do this?

Disks and pads can be done by any competent mechanic - there won't be anything MB specific that will fox them. Just make sure you have the wear sensors (assuming you intend to fit them) as it's a false economy to resuse old ones.

I had new pads on the ML last summer and I think the pads for both axles, sensors, and anti-squeal paste came to £120 ish from the parts counter at the main dealer. They were cheaper than EuroCarParts, GSF, etc.

The garage I've started using for MOTs swapped them over for me, as I needed them done in a hurry ready for a big mileage holiday, and he charged £40 IIRC and he said it took about 40 minutes in total. I gave a him a big tip on top for doing it at short notice and it was still a good deal for me. Might be a touch more for discs too, but not much.

I've done it before and it took me several hours, but that included chatting, drinking, looking for missing sockets, ooh-ing, ahh-ing, etc.

I can't imagine yours will be any different. Just use a mechanic you trust and you're away.

I just had quote for my C270 with sport pack brakes....front and rear pads and discs all incl came to £200 from stealer which was very good price for genuine brakes.....Wear sensors are only £5 each, one front and one rear.....

good news finaly - just had a quote for:-
2 front tyres (18's)
disc's and pads all round
mot
all for £335!
Thats over £300 less than my last 2 quotes.......

Big Smiles all round!

Are they genuine discs and pads?? Sounds like you might be getting some seriously cheap brakes, but maybe not genuine ones.....!!

Its a mates garage that i totaly forgot about until yesterday.....mates rates i hope!
Would ave thought they were MB as they have the sensors etc....

They are cheap I bought discs and pads all round on my 230k for just over £100, (all either ATE or Padgid) I am replacing my front ones tomorrow, with ATE power discs £34 each, standard ones were £22.

wow that is cheap....kwik fit quoted me £460 for the disc's / pads last week....!

I would check as you can get the sensors easily anywhere. I just bought front discs for mine today which are the drilled Brembo sport pack discs and they were 34 each plus vat from main dealer in Wales mail order, they are normally 52 each plus vat!! They are cheaper than some crap copies from Euros etc but the quality of them will be a lot higher!!!

Thats the point i was making about brakes from the main dealer, i just paid 34 each for front drilled brembo discs that come on sport pack models and the sport pack pads for 36 plus vat!!!! When i checked Euros and GSF for pagid etc they quoted me 52 each for discs and they are meant to be cheaper copies......!!

I have a set of EBC pads in the house, I got thm about 3 years ago and for the life of me cant remember if they are fronts or rears....Can any one explain how to stop the difference......
I imagine its not that difficult i just have no experiance with pads....

That is cheap! I replaced F & R discs & pads with ATE power discs & Textar pads plusnew sensors last October from Euro and that cost £280 inclusive! Pal of mine who's at Coopers BMW fitted them for £60 which was good. I priced new standard discs & pads at Mercedes Brooklands at the time and they were more.

Andy is that main dealer? Which dealer did you get the brakes from? Thats very cheap!

That was from Euro's all the parts were a mixture of Padgid or ATE.
At those prices I never replace just the pads, I always replace discs and pads all round, I get about 50-60,000miles out of them.
To be honest i don,t think much of the longevity of the ATE Power disc, one set of pads, and the groove of the disc has all but disappeared.
I have never even considered buying gen MB items as I nearly passed out when they told me the price of my C43 front disc's and pad's, £226 each!! front disc and if IIRC £120 for the front pads.
