is the little sensor wire connected to the pad OK? at what point does the sensor light up? the pads may well still have enough material on to be safe, MOT-wise but the warning light comes on prior to this? just a few ideas...

The wear sensor on my W203 reports worn brakes sometimes even though the pads are fine. The wires leading into the sensor are not covered on my car and as they get warm, they end up touching and triggering the error message. If I separate them I don't get any errors.

Try checking the wires leading into the top of the calliper, front, drivers side (assuming your CLK is the same as the C). You can see them through the wheel to easy to check.

I did get the pads checked by 2 garages so should be fine there, the last place i had them checked also checked the sensor wires and said they were also fine.....very strange.

the malfunction comes up straight away.

Did you get the rear/s checked? All else fails disconnect all the wear sensors where they plug into the connector and see if the problem goes away. The sensors normally work by earthing their connection wire so if you have a short in the connecting wiring as opposed to the sensors the fault will remain.

Usual cause is water in the sensor plug to the pad, dries out eventually or unplug and dry with hair dryer on low setting, that usually cures it. Then water proof spray the plug and socket so it cant happen again.
