CLS problem

I was reading about the cls500(388) on that site while researching before commiting to buy my cls500 & indeed there were a number of owners on there complaining about the engine shaking violently:crazy:,which almost put me off until i realised they were all american owners & the cars they were supplied with never hit the uk market.

The 550 engine is the same as the engine in your car. It's just badged differently. Any 550 problems may well be things to look out for. With regard to the V6 petrol issues Mercedes did resolve it with modifications to sprockets and tensioners.

Do remember that benzworld is an american forum and a lot of the problems are specific to those across the pond... Petrols are a lot more common over there and hence why more problems show up.

Do they not use a lower grade of fuel across the pond, just a thought.

I thought it was,the shaking issue was resolved(can't remember what the cure was)& it was mainly 2006 crs(don't know if that would have made any difference).

There are many variables when it comes to technical issues, thats why I tend to ignore benzworld.

I once stripped the underside of my dash on my 190E trying to look for a relay which I (much) later realised was only applicable to north america.... All the posts said it was tucked up in a hard to reach place so I was there for hours!

^If anything it's higher octane afaik.

^ I thought UK fuel was 95 RON for standard unleaded and US was 90 RON, I maybe wrong though

You could be correct Alan but when i was in Florida last year i thought it was 99ron:dk:

I run the Dodge on the highest rating 93

^Might explain why the engine problems occured in the US on the v8 cls550(fuel octane too low?).

I think if you include the RON rating, the fuel is very similar to our own.
Yes, your right. I hadnt realised until you posted. Apparently 98 RON is equivalent to the US 93 AKI (Anti Knock Index).

Just got the appointment sorted with MB Oxford for the diagnosis.
CLSs big day is.... Monday 13th Feb.

To be fair to them and my supplying dealer, my schedule changed suddenly as I am now away for several days within the next 2 weeks so they've accommodated me quite well really! :)

Thumbs up so far! :)
