I I've decided to get both rear air shocks done
and I'm having trouble getting someone to do
the job ! Tried a few garages with MB experience
and they say we will have to do some research
into how it's done and the time we need .
One said 5hrs per shock , but I know when
your doing one the other just unbolts and pulls
Out , anyone had this done and approx cost
I can get both shocks for @£800 .

MSL Performance did mine at the beginning of the year and it was no bother at all.

I think even a small child could do it from what I saw.

I can't remember the cost though but it didn't take anything like 5 hours for both - unless it is different on the CLS!

However, the last thing you want is a small child actually doing it, or someone with less ability which is what it sounds like you have come up against.

Speak to Captain Chicken!

Got a quote from Europa Mercedes Sheffield today , £1000 for 2 air springs , £640 to fit 1 air spring and another £240 if I have the other one done , well I think that is rarther taking the piss ;(
So nearly £2000 when brake fluid change is added to that .

Yes, you stated shocks in the first post and air springs in your second.

Is it the whole lot that needs replacing as that will be longer than just shocks?

I actually got told by my last indie when he was fitting new Arnott units to the front, that the rear was a complete PITA to do, as you had to drop the subframe! I asked this, as I said I wanted the whole suspension doing as I was sick of the dash symbol coming up. I replaced the two front ones (even though only one was faulty), and the rear was diagnosed to have a very small leak (that they couldn't locate) but said it was probably on the reservoir pipe, as its a weak point and corrodes.
IIRC the Arnott bellows do away with the reservoir and so no more problems with leaking pipes!

Had mine done at MB Tech Warrington looking at the invoice it was a 3hr job

Rear bags replacing is a big job, you need to drop exchaust/subframe etc to access the bellows. This is why most people like doing it, its probably not 5 hours for a trained person and once you dropped subframe, its meant to be a piece of cake.

What bags you going for? I am getting mine diagnosed by Wayne gates next week. Also where you based so that someone can suggest local indie?

My car has the Arnott replacement rear bags. I have checked the invoice and the labour charge charge was £350 Inc VAT.

Andrew, I would give MSL a call for a quote. Think it will be reasonable and it will be done perfect.
