does the lambda probe make any noise when faulty?
if i cannot source it, i shall just leave it to keep on thumping until it manifests itself somewhere else permanently.
or we shall avoid cold starts.
probably heat up the engine before taking off with some fire.

The Lambda is only a probe

the indy is looking at it now heard the clunk. definitely ruled out the chain. says its some kind of expansion valve opening after the car has stopped the fast idle.
fingers crossed,/ hope he is right. told him about the leaking water pump earlier on, that stopped leaking mysteriously 2months ago.

phew all sorted now.
it was the bracket covering the exhaust manifold which had cracked. after starting, the fast idle stopped, exhaust went hot,expanded and clunk went the bracket at exactly the same time all the time.
just welded it in place.
