Colour Question - Coveline Blue

Covelline Blue

Here is mine delivered last week

I love the colour..:D

Just let go of a 730d for this and I have to say I am very impressed with the engine, the ride quality (better than the 7) and the economy (40+ c/w 34).

Colour is a mix of blue, purple and grey.

Also has panoramic roof which I am really enjoying....

Good choice - engine and colour! Re your comment on riding better than a 7-Series - does yours have standard suspension or Airmatic?

I really want to take one of the facelift cars out.

Completely new suspension set up compared with pre facelift I had, and hearing some very good things about the ride.

Picking mine up on Friday. I'll post pictures.

The MB website pictures look more blue than purple, so hopefully that's what I'll get.

I opted for standard non sports suspension which is of course a no cost option on the AMG Sport models..

That's a good choice. - keep the 18 looks yet still have a comfortable ride. I wonder how many others have done that - not many is my guess.

Well I've seen mine this morning under artificial light, prior to it's final valet and it really is the most difficult colour to describe. The photos by Dieselman and Gizze look pretty right on my monitor, even though they are both different, if you get my drift.

Firstly it's a mid to dark blue, nothing like the quite light colour you can see on the German website but it's much lighter than in the UK brochure and no resemblance to the colour swatch I saw in the showroom. From a distance it is obviously blue. Close up there are some purple aspects, but not in a perlescent way like you used to see on 90s Alfas. Under quite strong artifical light the bonnet looked almost completely grey, with very little hint of any hue.

I will post some pictures after I pick her up but irrespective of how good your monitor is, they still won't be an accurate representation. You need to see it to appreciate it.

Overall, I'm really, really glad I made the choice - it's loads better than just driving yet another of the millions of grey and silver cars.

Bit of thread resurrection...

Been looking at a facelift 212 in Covelline Blue and in the photos it looks blurple, have you got any photos of yours?

The pictures in that ad really don't do the car any favours.

Also, looks like the seats need armrests for some reason.

I've seen an E63 estate and it looks completely different in at least three of the photos.

Coveline blue is very dark, we thought it was black until we saw it parked next to a black car.

In sunlight though the colour appears.

Wrong!

There were two blues when I ordered mine in 2013, one of which was indeed very dark in the showroom but that wasn't Coveline. It was Cavensite Blue, which (for reasons I can't fathom) was much more popular. I could find something in that colour in every showroom but couldn't find a Coveline Blue anywhere within a 2 hr drive of me.

Mine even looks a noticeable blue when it's in the garage with just incident light from outside.

Here's what it looks like with chalk leather as well:

I hope these help SPX, but don't base just on photos, you need to see a car. As I said a couple of pages ago, in bright light it can even look a teeny, tiny bit purple-blue but experience now tells me it needs to be absolutely perfectly clean and polished to within an inch of it's life to show it.

That's a great help Teflonso, thanks, it certainly seemed to be one of those colours that looks completely different in the flesh.

Bit of a long shot but are you looking to sell yours in the near future?

Lovely in that colour. Much nicer than our cavansite E63.

I sometimes think about it, with less than 11k on the clock at two and a half years old, it spends most of its time in the garage and has never seen a grain of road salt. I've got a common or garden Ford for chugging around town and risking supermarket rash.

But I'll be doing a 4 hour return trip tomorrow, massage seats turned on and I'll be back in love again. I doubt that I could swallow the first two years' depreciation mate, but I'm flattered by the interest.

I saw a cavansite blue CLS with pale grey upholstery recently, it is darker, but in daylight looked lovely, :thumb:

Ok! Here is Cavansite Blue - I've managed to overcome my Luddite abilities on the iPad now... My old E-Class is alongside on the second pic. Now, is the W211 better looking than the facelift W212?...

That W212 looks much like my Tanzanite Blue W211 in colour; the W211 looks more like Schwarzblau. But the car in post #8 looks closer to Azurite. Shock horror - the new colours are just the old colours with new names...

Is the W211 better looking than the W212? Just like the CLS pre and post-facelift; yes, of course it is.
