comand installs in the UK

Still no further forward with this install. Completely flattened battery in the process....

Managed to work out where Pillar A is thanks to Steve, pulled out trim and found a blue connector, only 1 wire going into it though.

As for GPS, Steve recommends placing it under dash on top of the heater vents, bit tricky, but as a test I placed it on the dash in the center of the screen.

Best I could manage was 5 satelites :-(

No positioning available with this, just 4-5 sats alternating in the display, I have a hand held Garmin that I'm gonna try in the same position to see how many it locates. May be house shielding it or position on driveway etc.

Shude,

The combined UK and Europe CD must have been launched in the last couple of weeks then! About time too.

I am currently trying to get the latest CD (wife works with a partner to TeleAtlas) - we wait and see.

Anyone know if the Michelin version is actually worth having?

Guy

I bought the france 2003 Michelin disc and was disappointed that it didn't have most of the Motels (e.g. Formule 1) listed in it. The tourist info also seemed a little disjointed but they are not that much different in price - so I guess you get what you pay for.

The latest UK disc (2004) is now out with better Postcode coverage but I saw from the Teleatlas website they have included the following line in the product desciption:

"This product is copy protected"...

-I guess this means we have to keep the original discs in the car! - I'm not happy about that, when I drive into France I'll have £200 worth of software in the glovebox, which I'm sure my insurer will love me if someone breaks the glass and nicks it.

jezza quite easy to install, just need to connect the can bus wires to the comand and d2b wakeup

cheers

Hurrah

Located what looks like the 8 pin blue connector in the cable gutter and spliced in with supplied wire.

Also, psoitioning the GPS to the right of the heater vents on the dash gives me 5-6 satelites. Hopefully this will be enought once its submerged into the dash at the weekend.

Anyone fancy ripping a CLK to bits at the GTG?

Thanks for all your help and input, especially Steve K in Holland.

Craig

OH, FYI

I copied my nav disk with Easy CD creator and it seems to work ok.
I wasn't happy about having 3 disks in the car so I did a quick backup and they loaded fine.

but what disc was it? - I know the earlier discs could be "backed up" (ahem) fine, it is only the latest UK "2004" disc that I have seen as marked with copy protection.

Hi,

Have you got improved reception yet?

If not here are a couple of things I learnt.

1) Make sure the aerial is the right way round! Sounds daft but it made a difference on mine.

2) Reception is only 8 sats in perfect conditions, trees and heavy rain really do have a big effect on it!

On the disk front you coudn't post a screen dump of junction 3 of the M2 as it was recently rebuilt and my Comand gets lost for the first mile or so as my 2003 disk doesn't show it properly!

Thanks

If you have problems with the Teleatlas CD's not being up to date you should tell them on their feedback form (its pretty difficult to find)

Teleatlas UK feedback form

otherwise they wont know will they?

>> Be interesting to see what type of "protection" is used.

Nero works fine. The cdrom only has basic protection (read errors).

Gav.

Reported to Teleatlas, although it is such a major change (built as part of the high speed rail link) that I can't belive they haven't already got notice of it. So back to my original question. Can anyone post a pic of it from the latest disc?

Thanks Kenny,

So are you able to confirm that the following connections are the only ones required:

Existing C connector pin1 (Can Hi ) to C2 pin 9
Existing C connector pin 2(Can low) to C2 pin 8
Existing C connector pin 4 (D2B wakeup) to C2 pin 10

Existing C connector pin 5 (CD changer +) to C1 pin 6
Existing C connector pin 6 (CD changer -) to C1 pin 5

Thanks for the help

Jezza:)

greetingz,
Hi Steve, hope you're well. I'd like to get an Aux input added to my COMAND next time you're in the UK. When do you think you'll be here next?

Seasons greetings,
William

William . . your Comand should already have an aux input enabled via the SYS button menu . . . just question of obtaining the right connector plug & pins.

For anybody that needs it, the following is required:-

A001 545 48 40 inner part of the C2 connector
A000 545 42 30 outer part of the C2 connector
A008 545 55 26 pins for C2 connector (x4)

Connections to be made as follows :-

Pin 4 - Aux Right
Pin 5 - Aux Right -

Pin 13 - Aux Left
Pin 14 - Aux Left -
