Common Faults with W208 CLK 230K???

If the problem is as shown in the attached image then the solution was to replace the camshaft timing magnet as a unit. Basically what you can see in the middle of the picture with the loom connected. It has the (improved as far as I am aware) connector built into it which I believe is what causes the original problem.

Disconnect the wiring connector, remove the three allen bolts, remove the old magnet and install the new unit by reverse procedure.
I used an instant 'oil proof' gasket solution on the face of the new magnet before bolting it back on.

Since carrying out the above the area has had no further leaks and as you can imagine looks a lot cleaner than that now!
The item was not overly expensive which was a pleasant surprise.

Hi,

Is this a pic of the new modified part or the old one as I'd like to have a look at mine and try and identify it.

Thanks

For models 129,140, 202, 210, 215, 220, 463 Up to the 15-08-99

If you have the EC light on all of the time on the above cars, the cure is to replace the temperature sensor.

This sensor for the refrigerant leaks moisture so that incorrect values are transfered to the control module and air con is turned off.

Replace sensor.

Ok, just had the heater control unit ripped out to do some testing as it transpires that the heating seems to stop when i put the headlights on, think it may be a faulty heater control unit. Also noticed a device which seems to make a funny clicking sound when the fan switch is set to zero. Check the photo below, its the device with the green pipes are connected to, anyone know what this is??

The picture I attached was the old part before I swapped it out. You need to remove the white plastic cover from the very front of the engine(closest to you as you stand in front of the car). It pops off. Once the cover is removed you will see the magnet & connector as shown in the picture.

Further to my post above.....

If you look at the picture in this post you will see that the cover with the MB Star in white, to the right of the dipstick, needs removing to see the magnet & connector.

And for some reason the heating doesnt go cold when the temp knobs are set to the coldest as hot air still comes out the vents

Thought I'd check the MAS on my CLK and noticed that it had a slight misting of oil on it. Also noticed lately that when driving the car and doing kickdown the engine would rev to 4.5k revs then start spluttering, normally would rev to 6k at least, also noticed sluggish acceleration. Anyway took the MAS out from its cylindrical tube and sprayed some Wynns Carb/Injection cleaner on it, lots of lovely brown gunk came out of it. After leaving it to dry it looked like brand new, popped it all back in and test drove. Blimey what a difference it had made, acceleration more responsive, kicks down and revs all the way now, economy has improved a bit and idle is smoother too. Problem sorted for now :o)

Cleaned out the oil seperator near the rocker cover and all associated rubber pipes too. Car feels like its been given a new lease of life.

Hi there, sorry I'm new here also now too much good in english.

I'm now using CLK W208 2001 and have problem with it and need suggestion, I found my car stop during drive and can restart but after some time it can't start anymore and need it to cool down before restart again.

When using VeDis checking it found AirMass control problem then while clear error code then care running smoth on idel but after get drive then car stop again and show air mass control error again. I already buy a part from Bosch and replace it but now engine didn't run smoth and seem error show too much air now I don't know what to do?

Thank

That sounds like the same problem I had 2 months ago.

You have to replace the MAF sensor which you already done and you have to clear and re-calibrate something related to the Turbo. Can't remember exactly what, its all written in the invoice so will check and post back later :)
