As explained above the 3 year warranty may only apply to cars in the UK or the EU for a limited time period. I think you are in "goodwill territory " here rather than absolute warranty terms. Your car being now registered in MALTA is not going to help.:( You will only get a definitive answer from MB via the MB dealer you bought it from and/or MB UK

I will contact mb uk directly and see what i can solve. Thanks a lot for your feedback.

The Mercedes Warranty is 2 years is world wide. I believe the UK warranty is two years plus a UK extension of 1 year- meaning presumably a car out of the UK after a certain period [ 60 days comes to mind] is not covered?? Time to examine the small print in the vehicle documents I think. In terms of recovery Malta is in the EU but again the time elapsed may disqualify the car. This may be one where you have to shoulder the immediate cost yourself and claim back subsequently from MB if you don't want to wait a long time to get the car back. Hopefully not if the car has an immaculate service record MB will deal expeditiously+sympathetically with your case with such a new car. If its the CHG then its going to be expensive so document /record all correspondence/communication with MB faithfully on this one. Be prepared to escalate your case to higher levels of management with greater powers of discretion than front line contacts who may simply be restricted to working from tick box action plans. Be doggedly persistent not angry would my negotiating tip.
Do you have any written documentation about that 60day period once a car is out of the UK. Cant find anything in my car booklet.

Its a grey area!

The 60 day period in Europe is quoted from MB Tier one extended warranty documentation supplied by Mondial Assist. Whether this also applies to the UK warranty I don't know.
I extrapolate ??? from this that Mercedes may regard any UK purchased vehicle that breaks down on the continent after 60 days - as no longer a vehicle covered by the 3 year UK warranty and that its then regarded as a EU vehicle with a 2 year warranty? The fact its now registered in Malta may further cloud the issue as to whether the UK warranty still applies. Only way to find out is via MB UK

Last I checked with my local dealer in 2008, they said that imports have 1 year warranty while cars sources in the UK had 3 years. The country of registration did not seem to matter, only the location where the original purchase was made.

I contacted mercedes uk... i will keep you updated once they reply

Car is back and fixed. Problem was from water connector hose housing. Mercedes Malta has contacted Mercedes Uk to claim for warranty. Service department said it was not an easy fix but at least it had nothing to do with gasket or cylinder head.

Glad they managed to isolate the problem. Remains to be seen if MB UK will foot the bill? Let's hope so----- and let us know the result.

Good news.

How did the coolant get into the engine oil then? Was it a leaking heat exchanger (small rad immersed in coolant and flowing engine oil)?

I don't know.... i only told them that coolant liquid was leaking and let them find the problem. They replaced the faulty part. Water level hasnt decreased. Oil colour was normal they told me. I don't think it was mixing after all. I posted a pic.... im new with diesel engines... my petrol engine used to have cleaner oil. But diesel tends to get dirtier.

Mayo at the upper part of the engine (filler cap / camshafts) is result of condensation.

Possible causes are wrong type of oil used, short journeys, or blocked breather.

Mayo on the dipstick is another problem, e.g. head gasket or heat converter / oil cooler etc.

thanks think it may be oil cooler leaking?, is it hard job to replace??
