Copying files to CD

OK - I've read all the posts and am confused?

You are copying from files originally copied from CD to PC and then back to CD.

three questions is the first CD an original standard off the shelf music disc or a previously copied to disc.

secondly (depending on answer to first question) at any time are the files standard audio files (off the shelf CD) or are they all some form of compressed audio, MP3, AAC, etc

What software and discs are you using?

Mike

Original CD is one from a shop so genuine article.
So presume answer to second Q is the standard files
Just using Windows Media Player and Verbatim CD-R discs

Jeez, what is everyone doing up at this time, I am ironically downloading CD rippping software, or trying to - 170Mb worth at not very quick download.......

Might be worth updating your media player to version 11 like I have.Allways thought ripping music via media player was common on all versions. If you do update its a lot better than version 10

Aaah this is Version 9! (Old laptop)

Used to have Nero on this and worked ok but since this laptop being wiped etc not got it anymore. Could always try tomorrow, if I can find a Nero disc.

Quick question - how did you get original CD audio files to PC and what did they look like when done?

Put CD in, clicked "Copy Music from CD" and saved them under their name, umm not sure what they looked like?!

If the CD is original is it copy protected in some way? Sony did this last year. If it is then Clone CD will copy it.

I was trying to work out what the files saved as and if they would copy back to CD, I suspect (assuming you are trying to create a standard audio CD - 74min) that the files on the PC are no longer in a CD audio compatible format - compressed or otherwise - so you may need to start from scratch.

In other words your first CD to PC automatically and without telling you did in fact convert the files to some type of PC (or more likely windows media player) format, said PC format is not going to let you burn a standard CD. If that makes sense.

I've copied originals before, but it's writing 2 tracks to CD then decides it's full up?! At least that's what it says when I shove it back in again!

Makes 2 of us, it asks me to insert a blank disc or one which has room!!!!
The one with 2 tracks MUST have room!
Can't get hold of original disc anymore either...:o

What make is your CD burner?
If it is LG I have a spare copy of Nero Express - Win XP only.

Do you have any other burning software apart from Windows Media ?

That's what it needs, but you can't run it on XP. It needs Easy CD creator. That just reads and holds the info and performs an exact replication.

No, not on this laptop, I might go round my parents tomorrow and see what I can borrow.....

Don't worry too much, it's just very annoying for me that's all!

Buy an iPod - well it is a solution :)
