Hi Guys,

Ref the 55 Engines, which is the current choice for a pulley upgrade, larger crank or smaller supercharger? I know through experience that both deliver a healthy power improvement, albeit different in delivery, but taking reliability and cost into consideration what is the preferred route.

Cheers Jules.

Car i have have came with larger 182mm crank, and i thought about the super charger pulley mod but declined due to extra cooling required, needs upgrade on injectors etc etc... but as unsure how long keeping car decided against this for the moment and gather would be looking at around £2000 to do the further upgrade

Crank but more expensive but can change the boost when required.

SC cheaper and set boost on pulley.

Acid

I would say go with Kleeman headers, upgraded HE and remap first, I'm running 552 BHP just with those.

I didn't go with a pulley upgrade as it is lot more work and more prone to trouble (just IMO)

Cheers Guys.

I want 550plus again but just thinking this time to go the crank pulley route. If done properly with the right parts should be reliable and give a decent result.

Don, your figures for headers / HE are great but the more expensive route and given I'll only have the car a year max, then I don't want to go mad, as I'll also most probably do filters, plugs, idler - tensioner pulleys etc also. Plus I still owe you a couple of filters.....

Cheers Acid, think I'll try this route once I've found another CLS55.

Ps need to pick up the Cayenne filters / boxes sometime soon.

Jules Good to see you getting back in an AMG...but come on stop messing about you know what it needs just the same as Don does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I cant talk about the secret club......it's the 1st rule

Lee you keep talking about the club that you cant talk about:thumb: and inviting others to join soon it will be the club everyone is talking about:p

I had Eurocharged S/C & Map 553 BHP

Jules - the new weistec crank pulley looks like a good well engineered bit of kit and has the choice of different size pulley rings that bolt on the face (probably what Acid is referring to). It's a relatively new pulley so I guess only time will tell, but looks like a good option:thumb:

If I were starting again I would probably look at this over the s/c pulley but....:dk:

Jules, great to see you back...I see the AMG bug has bitten you again, I know your prefer CLS but don't rule out W211, if you find a good un:thumb:

Jules if you don't intend to keep the car for long supercharger pulley may be a better bet, cost is lower and easier to return to stock when the time comes to sell if you choose. If you go crank I would keep it below 172 above that and cooling can be an issue if you drive it hard.

Cheers Simon, not seen the Weistec Pulleys yet so will definitely have a look. Hope all is good with you and the car?

Hi David, trust all is well with you and your cars? It'll almost definitely be a CLS though as I like the shape and the added bonus that it's a bit of a marmite car looks wise. The engine, noise, ability to tune, the forum, people etc makes it hard to not stay bitten by the AMG bug. I have really enjoyed reading the progress of the Weistec enhanced cars (63 & 55), simply outstanding, and also the growth of Eurocharged in UK (well done Guys) predominantly for the 55s, but also other Marques.

Hi Paul,

Totally agree ref supercharger pulley for a short term solution.

The main reason for the thread was to gauge current opinion on each option given that the supercharger pulleys have been installed on some cars over here for around 2 years now. Reliability, cost, performance gains, associated upgrades are all important factors and to be honest I know most of this already......but always good to hear others experiences.

I loved the set up on my old car with the Eurocharged SC pulley / map and at 585bhp, with the second session of mapping by Jerry providing a very fast and drivable car.

Jules

if that's what your thinking spend your money on cooling, enjoy it stock then you can join that club:D, whatever you do am sure you will enjoy being behind a 55 again.

Fair point, but it'll need to be about as good as my last one power wise though hence the basic upgrades.

Jules
