Cross threaded wheel nuts

That couldn't cross-thread it. And it couldn't tighten it any more than they would normally tighten wheel bolts.

Are you just guessing it's cross-threaded? Perhaps it's seized - this is a much more common problem.

I think on these lines too, can you really get the angle to cross thread it, I doubt it very much

These bolts are 12mm with a 1.75 pitch, so easier to cross thread than the 1.25

You wouldn't cross thread it by over tightening you would distort or strip the threads.

Absolutely correct no way, whether or not it was over tightened and some threads broke off and jammed it, without seeing it its impossible to say

Maybe time for brutality to save some money

I hade the same problem on my old w126 a few years ago, one of the bolts was cross threaded. So my dilema and solution. The bolt has to come out to replace the hub, so I told the tyre geezer set the air to max, lean on the wheel and see what happens. Well, luckily for me the bolt came out with no damage to the hub. On seeking further advice in case this should happen again, I was told that bolts are always made of softer material than the hub, in case you cross a thread. Basically you will wreck the thread on the bolt but the hub should be ok. In any case you have nothing to loose:(
