Cruise Control (Standard with Automatic transmission) and a fixed standard on the C320CDI,C280,C350

I misinterpreted you message to suggest that the CC/auto was standard across the C class.

Well you are not correct. Check out the MB website and you will find auto and cruise are an option on numerous E's, C's all B's all A's and so on.

The S is auto only and therefore comes with cruise standard. On any Merc where you choose auto -or where auto is standard- cruise is included AFAIK.

I only have price list back to 1998 and when you choose Auto the CC is free, as 96% of all MB's sold are Auto that confirms it, and thats exactly what he said. In fact I put it up in the post above this, on the new C Class. CC is also offered free on two of those.

Earlier in this thread you poo pood Distronic, in Top Gear tonight, Clarksson said that it was a super thiing on the MB's and that Volvo have now started to put it on their cars.

On the new C class diesels - auto is only standard on the C320 cdi. all others it is a pay for option. Cruise control is standard WHEN you elect to pay for the automatic - you get my favourite item speedtronic too...

You have this the wrong way round. You said I was wrong in what I said. But if you read my quote carefully I think you will agree that what I said is correct.

In fact from the MB website it is not standard on any A class, or any B class. On the C class, if we take the petrols, it is not standard on the 180K or on the 200k or on the 230K. It is standard on the 280 and 350. For diesel C class cars it is not standard on 2 out of 3 models; not on the 200cdi or the 220cdi but it is standard on the 320cdi. As I said before if you choose the auto option the price includes cruise.

Not to distract from the original thread, which is quite interesting and very informative, no mention is/was made of the LIMITER function which I tend to use instead of CC as it fits both Speed limit criteria and negates the necessity to continuously engage/disengage CC (manually or by braking) in the less than ideal situations. Even on motorways, as has already been mentioned, driver behaviour of bunching and 'filling' safe distance gaps makes me use CC less and less in favour of the LIM function as one is more in control by either easing off the throttle or flooring it to kick-down to override the function, and NO it will not lurch forward due to the inherent lag (I am one of the unlucky ones where the SprintBooster did not work) - end of the day, horses for courses, whatever suits the individual most...

There are many 126 cars without CC if you wanted it. you paid for it. On the SL in Oct 1994 if you wanted CC you paid for it on the 280 £360 and this had nothing to do with auto box. On the S class in Oct 1994 CC was standard on all models.

The argument as you well know is that MBManinKen said it was standard on most Mercs. In fact it is an option on many.

I said that it was an option on many and you posted that I was wrong and should think twice before posting. Not a pleasant thing to say especially since what I said was correct.

I use cruise almost all the time on the motorways as my driving is normally 'off peak'. It was a standard fit on my R129, but a cost option on my V6 Vito (not included with the automatic gearbox). I've not yet used the limiter function on the Vito (the R129 doesn't have this).

They did not. They had to pay over £1000 in my case for the auto and cruise option. They come together but that does not make cruise free.

Not taking sides regarding this discussion, but on Mercedes vehicles that have automatic gearboxes and not cruise control, then it is a cost option which comes with soeedtronic, option MS1 £170 and applies to the Vito, Sprinter etc.
