Detailing, Valeting, Car Washing.....

Yes for the outlay you have done well, plus I love your approach to having ago yourself to the point its becoming a hobby:) If you have time and you have someone close by to borrow a proper d.a. you just need the following,

-Megs 105
-Megs 205
-Microfibre compounding Pad
-Microfibre finishing pad

This combo on a d.a. (to me) is the best and most effective way of removibng swirl marks for a novice on rock hard mb paint. You will have the tools to hit it properly without the pressure of thinking you will strike through the lacquer. If you can borrow a d.a. the cost for the rest would be £30.00. Either way, keep up the good work as I admire your push for perfection!

Cheers
Michael

I might be being thick but the MOP I've bought seems to have a weighted sort of action which made me wonder if it moves concentrically as opposed to spinning like a sander? Is this different from a DA?

PS. The wing on that Porsche is insane :) :)

So much for the before photographs, can't wait for the after shots......................:D

Looks great. I bet you are well pleased with the results.

I've just bought a rotary after I posted a thread on the subject. Wish I'd done it years ago instead of p*ssing about with DA's all this burning through the clear coat and paint is total b*llocks. With my new rotary I can literally do the car in half the time it took me with my DAS6.

Also switched away from Menzerna to Poorboys another step in the right direction but must admit not started on the MB yet only done the Volvo so far, well I had to practise on something :D

Hopefully MB this weekend :thumb:

Looking forward to seeing photos of your car after it's polish :)

Camera has new batteries all I need now is some decent weather for Saturday:thumb: Worst case I'll photograph it in the garage under halogen lights.

Just reading on the forums though there is some doubt over Poorboys on German paint I was going to give it a shot with the Poorboys SSR1 which has worked great on the Volvo (and my daughters Punto) followed by Black hole glaze topped off with P222 wax. They reckon the hardness of the German paint more suits Menzerna which I still have but am now in a dilema which to use.

Hope Detailed reads this before Saturday all expert advice welcome :D

Hi there bud,

Merzerna polishes and compounds are superior to the poorboys products. Many more years of developing especially on VAG paint. But I will not like I purely use Megs 105, 205 and the scholls concept range these days. That was until the new Menzerna FG400 was available. This compound with practiced can be finished down with zero holograming. I may go as far saying it can knock severe marks out with a better refinement then Megs 105. But I will hold my tongue until I've used it on a few different paint types.

Menzerna Fast Gloss - FG400 Polishing Compound - 250ml Elite Car Care

Unfortunately ECC only have it in the small bottles but the 1L should be with us in the next week or so. Epic compound:)

Thanks for that much appreciated the Poorboys has worked well on the Volvo never photographed it with this being a MB forum, TBH I had the products given which is why I used them. I actually have some FG400 as thats what I used on SWMBO Audi A8 before I sold it and it came up awesome. Think I might stick with the Menzerna then for the MB.

I never really got on with Megs 105 and 205 but that was back in my early attempts at detailing so maybe it's time to go back and give those another go

I know my efforts will never be as good as a pro but I do enjoy doing it and get satisfaction from a sparkly car

Once again thanks for the advice :thumb:

Hi,

No problem at all. There's nothing wrong with poorboys and if it works for you then fantastic. Yes the FG400 is crazy good especially when you can literally finish it down so well:)

Q for Detailed, I'm toying with Auto Glym High Denifintion for my next polish. Any thoughts re using it on my particular car? Cheers

A/G HD is a wax not a polish...I keep looking at it in Halfrauds but not sure yet?
There are so many i want to try but cant make my mind up!

I'm currently on P222 and its brilliant but the tub is running out, my only gripe with this wax is its durability shine is fantastic but loses its water beading effect after about 6 weeks. was thinking Collinite next but not sure.

My Nephew uses AG HD on his black BMW and its hard work, if you don't finish it with quick detailer after you have done it it goes patchy at the first spot of rain for some reason, loads of posts on the BM forum about this

I think i have read somewhere that its something to do with the carnuba crystalizing!...but i might have dreamt it!

wont be getting that then...got the CLK valeted when i got it and he recommended collinite 476 so might give that a try my only issue is no garage or cover so need something that can be used in sunlight!

i have used collinite 845 as a spray and the beading lasts a lot longer than 6 weeks

I had a quick look at products that could be used in direct sunlight and Poorboys Natty Paste Wax seemed to come out top LINKY they also do different colours.

I used poorboys ssr1 polish in the bright sun when I detailed the Volvo and the performance was brilliant no issues at all. The natty Paste Wax has reviews similar to the P222 though great product super shine but not that long lasting.

I use Collinite 915, fantastic silky feel afterwards and the beading lasts a looong time. Always finish off with a wipe over with Meg's Last Touch to de-dust (esp now with the black finish).
Application in direct sunlight no problem. In fact I'd say it goes on better with a bit of warmth on the paint.

I feel slightly out of this loop as I use Fairy Liquid only!

Greg, once again great work. Congratulations.

I might drop the S-Class down to you for a couple of weeks, it's in a terrible state. Having it washed every day by the local wash and go brigade.

I need to get Adam to give it some TLC.
