Does the car you drive

you live in a tower block but drive a mercedes e63?

..matches the house you living in?

I've no real idea what you mean, not being smart ****d, but to judge a man/woman by the car they drive and the house they live in, is....how will I say this...it's somewhat nonsensical. Actually, I don't think it warrants a thread just on that alone, it smacks of snobbery (not saying that was your intention). Different if you wanted to discuss easy car finance or the cost of buying an ex council or average modest houses compared to a few years ago.

Anyway, if somebody is happy to live in a council house, modest house, small house and drive what looks like an expensive car in relation to their neighbours or what you would expect them to drive, good on them. Possibly too, it more than likely supports my theory that they are not shoving white stuff up their noses or spending all their income on booze.

You are probably right John, my post might have came across as snobby/elitist, which of course was not my intention.

I assumed the owner had it financed up to the hilt to drive a fancy car, yet he prepared to park it on the main road and living in a council terrace, just seem crazy!
As some members pointed out earlier, a section of the general public would do anything for status symbol.

I totally understand that some members here are living in places where there are no private parking, but they are never living in a council estate,.right?

Some cars look a load of dosh but in reality are not(ish)...you can now get a conti GT for £20k:thumb:...still looks fresh imho and not that far away from current series model...with private plate this still looks £100k all day...so sometimes even though you think your neighbour has forked out a fortune in reality they may have not...

Bentley Continental Gt 6.0 W12 2dr Auto

PS. the owner of this car lives in a bungalow:eek::D

This is the street I grew up in, my brothers both still live there. The car is nice, not unusual for the £3m house it resides outside (the gates in the pic)...but the owner was only 21 at the time:

Just, my version...:p ;):D

I sometimes find myself wondering the same thing as the OP.

That said, after the late 80's / early 90's property crash I was back living with my parents rent free (having followed their advice that "you can't go wrong with bricks & mortar"). Deluded with the housing market I was on a decent enough contract to go out and buy a 911, with a merc as my daily. I frankly didn't even consider what people may have been thinking. Six months later the porsche and merc had gone, I was back on the property ladder and driving my then girlfriends Ford Orion - that was a shocking car.

Moving on, My current daily is less than 3% of the value of my house. I think a more interesting statistic would be value of your car as a percentage figure relative to your household income... but then again, that's all relative as to what your disposable income is after you've paid the mortgage etc - I may be mistaken but I think there maybe a thread that's already done this.

My car...probably about less than 1% the value of the house.

I think my neighbours despair of me, although recently cars have improved slightly.
