I have a E55 amg w210.
I have been quoted £200 all in. By the main Mercedes dealer to change the ATF/gaskets and filter.

So does this sound reasonable for main dealers prices

The reason i ask is that an independent garage quoted me £80 but i had to supply the ATF and filter etc which i read would cost about £90 quid from the dealer.

Both rates sound expensive if in £ sterling.

So the local garage wants £80 just for labour, it should take about an hour to do if that.

Agree with DM. I do the job for £85 plus vat while doing a service.

The other thing is that the Mercedes dealer said. That he thinks that the original fluid that was used in the w210 e55 autobox (longlife stuff) may no longer be available anymore, and they would use the fluid that a w211 e55 amg uses. Which needs changed every 40,000 miles

Whether its £80 or £200 a job that only needs doing once every four years of annual motoring on a car with that much torque and horsepower seems pretty cheap to me.

I probably spend more than £80 every four years on wiper blades alone!

My 2 pence worth ...

Got mine done on my E55 last week - parts did come to around £90 but labour was charges at only £40

Car is pulling away stronger in lower gears now and changing much smoother

Then you are confirming what most people say after changing the fluid.

& Thanks for posting back

got it done in the Mercedes main dealers in the end.
Only cost £146 all in so a good price and definitely well worth it and the box feels alot smoother all round

had mine done 2 years ago £124 quid mercedes dealer ..... they did not want to do it at first ...as its sealed for life .....well we put a end to that ...so they may have cottened on to a nice little earner and pumped up the price ....make sure you get the tourqe converter fluid dropped as well and a new filter + seal

good luck....

Just saying that the torque converter drain plus were done away with in 1999

It is said that you can drain it through the fluid cooler

It looks like their site might be down at the moment but these are the people you want. They do various filters but you would require the smallest, which is about he size of a coke can. A slighlty cheaper filter is about the size of a toilet roll.

The remote filter would need to be fed from a pressurised line and returned to the sump or other freely vented port.
One line could be the oil cooler line, the other either drill the sump pan or use the drain plug hole.

The only difficulty might be finding a suitable place to mount it in the engine bay.

Linky to Kleenoil

This will be something for next year, it would be interesting to get the contents analyzed after a few months
