Depends on the model/version of Comand, and what's wrong with it. If the fault is in the head unit then a straight swap might sort it. However the Comand system is linked by fibre optic cable on a MOST ring. All the components in the loop have to be working or else it will not boot up. This includes the head unit, the audio gateway (AGW), CD changer, Satnav, telephone control unit and microphone control unit.
You stated the radio works with the steering wheel which is confusing, as normally it all goes down. Also mentioned if it has HK sound then the AGW is very expensive to replace. Will need professional diagnosis to pinpoint the problem. Without STAR diagnostics, the only option is to bridge the fibre optic loop one component at a time to find the faulty one.
