E55k exhaust mod question

Hi all, sorry if this has been answered before, but I have read a lot of exhaust mod threads and am still not clear.

I have an 04 E55k and the only disappointment with it is lack of noise, especially when pushing on. Essentially, I want to have much more V8 noise when doing WOT. However ,I do live in a quiet neighbourhood, with lots of old people, curtain twitchers etc! They would not take kindly to a raucous exhaust noise on start up or when getting it in to my very narrow garage, which involves a 3 or 4 point turn.

So I still need relative quiet at startup and low revs and then louder roar when planting the throttle - what would be best for this?

Member AMGeed had his modded by MSL Performance a while back.

IIRC it was a secondary cat delete and resonator removal. He likes it, and is impressed with the difference it made, not only to sound but I believe it helped with performance as well.

I think a resonator delete would be perfect for you.

Give me a call if we can help. We have done plenty in the past.

This is about right. Not much louder on tickover and low revs, but a good growl on acceleration. TBH, I could do with a bit more noise but that will only be achieved with aftermarket headers or C63 mufflers.
Never going to be as shouty as Daves 5.5TT with headers though:D

CLS 55 back boxes might give you just what you're looking for if you can find some.

I want my 55 to pop & bang. Sometimes it does a little on the overrun. I have a secondary cat & resonator delete. Sounds lovely but no pop's & bangs.

iPE valvetronic syetem comprising mid and rear sections.
Valves closed on start up and then when you're away from the curtain twitchers, open the valves and enjoy :)

iPE is designed for the C63 but 2 pieces of 3" pipe approx a foot long modifies it to suit the CLS55 and E55

I had sec cat delete and res removal but didn't quite do it for me so I went with iPE and very impressed

What's a rough estimate for an IPE Chris?

with the sec cat and res removal and with the iPE exhaust do you experiance any drone at low speed or cruising speed.

I too am in the same boat and would like a little more noise.

Thanks for all the responses so far, very helpful :thumb:

Think I will probably start with the resonator / secondary cat delete and take it from there. If anyone near South Oxfordshire has this already on an E55k I would love to come and have a listen!

My indy removed my centre resonator and sounds far better under load, cost about £100 IIRC

I paid £1900 for mid and rear sections :thumb:

Slight cab drone at around 2000rpm but nothing like it was previous to the iPE install. There is always the "valves closed" option but I can't seem to work it :)

mine pops nicely

C63 rear boxes is the way to go (I have a set for sale if you decide to go this route - leave the middle resonators alone as a lot have suffered droning when you remove these.

do a search - million threads on this :)

slightly different question but whats the best way of increasing power from the exhaust without creating more noise

All will increase noise. Best addition would be ' headers' but it will still increase the noise level

Cheers - I am happy with some more noise when pushing on just definitely don;t want motorway drone and waking up the neighbours when I start the car. I love the whole "stealth" aspect of it.
