E63 AMG Remap & Dyno

I will be nagging you for a run up the strip next time I see you at MSL Dave.

You have a great car there as I may have mentioned many times before:D

Thanks Roger, you're more than welcome as you hopefully know. :)

Dave your car is beast ;)

Cheers Suky my mate, you still have first refusal on it if I ever decide to move it on, as you know, but it won't be for a bit yet. :bannana:

Morning James,

Yes, I did have an E55 but a few cars ago now. Loved it to bits as well. It was completely standard and the power was delivered very differently to the 5.5 twin turbo which I have now.

The E55 as you know, puts power down from a reasonably early stage, but does thrive on revs to keep it there, whereas the Bi doesn't need many revs at all. I find that to get the best from the acceleration on the supercharged engines, they need a firm right foot, whereas if you try that in mine it will try to throw you into a hedge.

In other words the twin turbo, especially once tweaked a bit, has a lot quicker response. Almost instant with none of the lag which used to be associated with turbos, and a lot lower down the rev range. :)

That has been my experience with the two Bi-turbo's I've had, floor it and see your back tyres shred without any forward motion, you just have to get traction down first of the line before putting your foot down :bannana::D

Awesome figures! I need to get mine done now, what made you choose the AMS induction over weistec or other companies?

No-one else does an induction kit for it as far as I'm aware Luke.

All Weistec do is an air filter package which I already had. I wanted the look as well, so went with Alpha as I knew that they were developing their system for a long time and had done a lot of research.

If I were to have the time back it's one mod I wouldn't have bothered with to be honest. It does have an excellent finish to it, but it's a very poor fit in places and with no noticeable performance gains it really was just a flight of fancy on my part, basically spending too much time on the net researching bits and pieces, though it will come in handy for my next plan for the car.

The simplest and cheapest ways to get enhanced performance out of these cars is purely and simply a remap, which one or two people have now done. This can take them to over 700bhp very easily. Once you start wanting more it starts to get expensive, but some of us are a bit stupid. :D

agree awesome power ! had my new unmodified e63 almost 3 weeks now and love it! Not sure leasing co MB finance would be happy about increasing output though :(

sounds an awesome set of mods.

Its something i'll be looking in to at some point as my E63 is the first car I've had that I've not had remapped and modded.

Just have concerns over the spike in insurance though!

Depends on your circumstances but my modifications, classed as up to 25% more power I think, and made no difference to my insurance.

Also depends greatly on your insurance company John.
Some won't even accept modifications and some are very lenient. Luck of the draw I guess.

I was with swift prior to my remap. Few days before my visit to Acid I called up Swift. They did not want to know and wanted to cancel my cover there and then.

In the end I went to Chris Knott who placed the cover with Highway who are owned by LV.

Mine's with Privilege. No problems with them, all mods have been declared and are actually printed onto the schedule.

Surprisingly it didn't alter by a great amount, and it's nice to know that they're aware of things just in case.

Interestingly enough, I've just phoned the insurance company to confirm the addition of the c/f intakes and they weren't over happy. It turns out that the increase in power is a little bit too much for them now for some reason, yet they were OK beforehand.

Ah well, in fairness to them they are a mainstream company and they've been happy with most things, though have tended to generalise on them, like classing the downpipes as a generic stainless steel exhaust and the mapping as chip management. This was good till the power kept increasing, but I suppose that they have to draw a line somewhere.

I've just come off the phone with A Plan, who were more than happy to accommodate all the current and future mods, and were actually suggested by my current insurer. They now have my car with them. Up to a 40% increase in power, fully comprehensive class 1 business use and at a cost of £720 p/a (including legal excess and all that other stuff they sell you)

Probably a good thing I had a look at this thread as I may have been compromised in the event of an accident investigation.

It's an age thing Dave :-)

At least I've reached it Steve, many would have liked to. :thumb:

At 30mph?lol

Even at 10mph without kangarooing up the runway! :D :thumb:

I'm glad to hear it's not just me that has that concept to deal with sometimes.

I thought it would be consigned to history when I moved over to autos but I see it again, albeit for a different reason, on this car.

Albeit not very often - most irritating!

Bruno (C36fan) is an expert, there is a video somewhere of him performing this stunt at a Terminal Velocity event :thumb::D

Happened once John when I was trying to launch it very little grip ,there's no half term with this cars !lol

Chris Knott/Highway don't insure E63s.

I've been with them for years driving a remapped Jaguar XF with replaced & lowered suspension and they would always beat any quote.

Phoned about the E63 and said sorry, Highway have a policy of not insuring the 5.5 bi turbo E63's!! Had a good laugh with the guy on the phone but ended up going with Hastings Direct and getting the insurance cheaper than the Jag.

Hastings are good with mods for my motorbike so hopefully they'll be as understanding with the car when I decided to get it done

I usually get kangerooing when I'm not fully committed to a quick take-off or through indecision... it's hardly ever but a PITA when it happens.
