Engine missing

Car
Audi A4 Quattro Avant S-Line
Car is 1999 C230 Kompressor.

Under hard acceleration the car 'misses' at about 3,000 - 4,000 ish revs. When cold misses at lower revs. Changed the spark plugs to some effect but underlying issue still present....any ideas?

Thanks.

hole in supercharger air inlet system?
hole in exhaust system?

Believe there is a (small) hole in exhaust as I can hear it, going to get it sorted soon. Would this really effect the missing? Since changing the plugs it accelerated much better but missing still.

Coil pack(s)? Leads have been suggested but I don't know.....not a mechanic!

does it feel like its hesitating under hard acceleration?

Could be the Maf sensor???? just a thought usually a misfire is either fuel or Maf sensor related.

Apologies up front for this.....

Engine missing

Where did you last see it?

Sorry.

As soon as I posted the thread I was waiting for that to come up! :D

Yes it feels like it misses under hard acceleration, which is mighty annoying sometimes!

Reason I mention coil packs was because my OH previous scooby had similar symptoms and he had to buy new coil packs at £70 each! He said it sounded possible but he doesn't know Merc engines all that well.

Someone also mentioned lead caps to me but not sure what/how to replace etc.

Thanks for all thoughts :)

Sounds like one of the HT leads breaking down. I have had similar problems on all my previous Mercs. IMHO it will probably need to go on the diagnostic machine to read the resistance values to isolate which one.

It could be so many things.

Coil packs

Ignition leads

A air mass or lambda issue.

Get it on a star and there maybe some codes logged.

Don't mind paying, that's not an issue but how much do they charge for hooking it up? Never had to before now.... want to get it sorted though!

Spose I could pop along to the dealer tomorrow.

They won't charge you to look at it.

It's fixing it which will incur open wallet surgery...

Thought they may have a nominal charge, sounds like a plan for tomorrow then!

Seriously ? Good lord.

Needless to say , i passed on it and have never bought anything from there since ....

A 'Star' diagnostic hookup usually costs £40 or £50 +vat, cheaper to change the HT connectors, they're only £5 each.

Once years ago i took my old old 98 disco for a diagnostic check no fault found:eek: and thats the only time ever, i have always found the fault using my common sense and especially the info on the web.

Code readers are cheap enough.

Google obd codes and read up loads of info there, just remember the code logged does not always mean thats what at fault but sometimes something has gone wrong and messed the readings and logged a code.

Would you know where I can buy these from or point me in the right direction?

Gina

whilst you say it misses at 3500/4000 revs, will the car actually rev beyond that speed OK ie. will it rev OK at say 5000 revs ????????
