Engine missing

Hey! Are you lot being sexist? Tut tut.... I refuse to pay extortionate prices at the garage when I can (eventually) get round to it myself, or cheaper!

I took the old MAF back to GSF this afternoon, I said that I found the Bosch MAF on Euro Car Parts for £127, they said "don't swear at us," they didn't think they could come anywhere near that so I left. I couldn't find that isopropyl alcohol in Boots, so went home empty handed. Rang GSF again and asked what's the best you can do, they dropped it a futher £23 to £145 so I went and picked it up today.

Fitted it, problem solved! :D :D

Thanks for all your patience with me and your help!

Its amazing how a simple problem can run 12 pages because it was opened by a female... ;)

hmmmm i do recall on the first few posts me saying it was the MAF....:p

then i got told it couldnt be.....

and now it is..... ;)

Raj :p

Only 'cos a Blokeeey would've got there before...

It does make a pretty good 'how to' though....Testing for Dummies..

Be honest, did anyone know how to test a MAS..? ;)

I seriously think by compiling the technical bits here, it would be a great HOW TO. :):) I would be a shame not to do it as you have certainly put some valueable information here.

Well done !

Didn't take any pics, but it would be dead easy to do that. I've even got all my wiring still hooked up! :D

As a matter of interest it would be good to get readings from the new MAS.

Raj. You were right but the initial report was of misfiring. Obviously, now we have someone who can diagnose we can have much better information to work with...

Did the new ignition components actually make a difference.?

To be fair it was probably my poor explanations.... :o:doh: :D

i had the exact same thiing with the SL320 and spent money on a new lambda sensor before replacing the MAF, well i had the CEL light on as well.

But as soon as you mentioned the rev range where it was stcking it was near enough identical to the symtoms of my issue which turned out to be the MAF.

and as i said before it was due for changing anyway at 157k on the clock i think you have got your moneys worth out of the old one :D

Glad its sorted

Raj

Yes the other things did help the smooth running like the plugs, leads and coil packs, perhaps the old K&N air filter didn't help either? I don't know, but I bought a standard one anwyay!

I haven't cleaned out any pipes although I could easily do that on the weekend.

Good idea, a K&N filter is bad for the MAS and engine due to allowing dirt in. The filter restriction is negligible compared to the rest of the intake trunking, so not worth doing anything with.

It's in the bin!

However, if you want a smoother and better throttle response, you can move the location of that MAF as I have done, closer to the throttle body. If you want the details on how to do so let me know via PM and I can email you the info on how to do it.

That'll mean another 12 pages...

Sounds like a plan though! And sounds like a good idea.....hmmmmm
