I am thinking of upgrading my car for maybe a c230k or 240 sport. Now thats quite a big jump from the current c180.

What would the fuel consumption be like?

Currently I get approx 320-340 miles from the full tank in urban driving and maybe a little more if motorway.

Thanks

About the same for the C230K then (real life figures, mixed driving). I should imagine the C240 to be more thirsty.

On paper, the C230K is the most fuel efficient petrol w202.

Prior to my last service I was getting about 380 miles out of a tank, which is about 29mpg. Now with new oil, oil filter, sparkplugs and a few other bits and pieces I'm expecting the economy to improve :)

There's no imagining about it :( The V6's will be more thirsty than the C230K. Depending on how I am driving I get between 200 to 250 miles on a tank of pure town driving. That'll go up by about 100 miles or so for motorway cruising. I have an extremely heavy foot around town though. :o

Steve that's about 15-18mpg!

I seem to get pretty much the same economy no matter how I drive.

Nowadays I get similiar economy whether it is city or motorway. When I first got the car i was getting about 380 in city and about 450 on motorway!

...my C230K returns between 25 - 29mpg mainly commute town + motorway + some jams. Long runs at 70mph return 32 - 35mpg. I suspect that the V6 will use a little more than the C230K.

C280 V6 fuel consumption

I generally average 28 mpg on mixed driving with 33 mpg motorway average. Best ever was 35 mpg, worst was 26 mpg. That doesn't seem too bad to me.

Maybe I have something wrong with my car then  the best I can get on a long motorway run is just under 400 miles but my daily commute which is 100% stop/start town driving doesn't yield much more than about 220 miles a tank. :( I dunno if it's my imagination or not but I'm sure it wasn't as bad as that when I was commuting in my previous job.

Ok I just got 390 miles out of 63 litres, which is about 28mpg. I have been giving the car some stick too, so for this next tankful (which should last 4 days or so) I will drive sensibly and see if there is any improvement :)

Lot more than what i currently get!!

So whats the most fuel efficient W202? So far it appears to be C230k, what about the C200?

I average around 30 mpg (BTW - it's auto). That comprises worse approx 24 mpg around town and best 33 mpg motorway.

On a tank full I get about 300miles commuting,If ive worked it out correctly its about 23mpg.On a good run 400miles to a tank.

Just filled it up this evening, having covered 306 km with 56 litres (5,5 km/l)... :o This comprised mostly town driving, with about 100 km of motorway...

On a pure motorway run with speeds between 160 - 220 km/h, I would get about 420 km out of 55 litres (7,6 km/l).

I think I get around 250 miles from a full tank.

Mainly city driving - not much opertunity for a decent 'run' at rush hour!

I am sure on a run that this increases significantly.

No way of checking (I don't keep records!) but I could of sworn that my previous W202 (C200 Esprit, manual) was more fuel efficient?

Perhaps it's more to do with a heavy right foot! ;)

Cheers,

Will

You 240 guys must have really heavy feet!

The worst tank I have ever had over the last 8K miles was 25mpg totally around town, the best 38mpg on a long run at 70mph!!

My average over this mileage has been exactly 30mpg on a mixture of urban and motorway driving with the occasional kickdown for fun! I normally fill up at around 360 miles to a tank, just as the light comes on.

This is a 98 c240 auto btw. (w)aft on the gearbox is about 3mpg better than (s)narl, but it's a bit sluggish to be practical for me to use most of the time! I reckon a 280 would be the best, a little more grunt for virtually no economy penalty and all the smoothness. Mild complaint is that mine likes a litre of Mobil One halfway between services, which is not cheap at £11 from Halfords!!

With town driving and short journeys I get about 270 miles to the Light coming on, nearer 400 on a motorway run.

Go on, get a c36, you know you want to,
