Engine size vs Fuel

Last tankful just lasted me 265miles.

S.

About time you petrolheads bought a Large Diesel. :D

600 miles to the tank on a long run - 80 litre tank.

It looks like no-one does long runs though and on the short runs the diesels aren't getting any better mpg than the petrol models.

I've got a C36 and get about 180 to a tankful. Thats around town driving(I do short journeys to work and back of about 2 miles 4 times a day) I don't drive it hard either!!!. My old C200 used to do about 220 for the same journeys.

Alan

Sorry Alan, my c36 consistently returns over 250 a tankfull. I run about 6 miles through a small town with traffic. I dont drive that hard/fast really, but I do sometimes spin the tyres and boot it.

thats more than I got from my C200.....I'm sure the 2 mile short journeys are a factor. My C200 was fine on a run...Anyone else have any comments on how regular short journeys affect fuel economy or should I get my car looked at....

I never get less than 600 miles from a tank, I think 580 is the least I once got. And I do have a pretty heavy right foot.

It did cost me £70.92 to fill up this morning though

Alan, I would get it checked out, it can't be running right. Maybe the 2 mile journeys are a factor, but it is quite a bit lower than mine.

In my old C240 sport I used to get anything between 240 and 340 miles out of a tankfull. The worst was 220mls but usually averaged around the 280 mark.
In the E320 CDI I can sometimes get 600 out of a tankfull but I have got as low as 430mls out of it. Yes, I do drive like a ####head but I just cant grow up. :D

The best ive had from my 55l tank is 220mls. Thats from light to light. Dont know what that is in mpg cos im thick :p

Short stop start journeys are where a diesel will excel due to the extra torque available.

You boys with your little  engines!! Just got back from picking the kids up over the weekend, did 350 miles on 58 litres, 27ish to the gallon!

Smooth V6 power :D

mhmmm My c36 almost never drops below 250 at the orange lamp. 28mpg/200 for a half tank last run.

I am glad I stuck to a straight 6 motor. I had heard the v6's weren't very economical.

Nickmann, how do you get it that low?

My last tank was 382 to the orange light, and my worst was 294...

Next time you W211/s211 E320Cdi owners tank up, switch to the "Range" display when you switch on. Mine always tells me 766 miles!

Normal service resumes soon after though. Normally get about 450-ish miles between fill ups in the normal grind.

Could get the Land Cruiser fitted with the extra tank that comes as standard in Africa & Oz. That would take the capacity to a mere 180 litres and at the average 27 mpg over 1000 miles to a fill up. Ha!

There is an optional South Africa tank for the w202 and probably other MBs as well :)

Probably more to do with where I live than with my right foot. The longest run I do is 10-12 miles. The average run is more like 3 miles. I had a Saab 2.0 4-cyl and I only got 19mpg from that too. I don't believe I have ever cracked 20mpg in any car locally, except maybe my first car (Chevette), and to be honest I have lived with 12-14mpg quite a lot too.

I am in the Uk about monthly from March to Sept, doing long runs only (say about 2 hours) and I get about 20mpg on those, but I have 4 or 5 bikes on the roof which would account for that. When I get to France and can take the bikes off I expect about 26 overall, maybe max 30 on the Autoroute.

Overall I'm not even faintly concerned about economy - I could get 25mpg by driving something else, but I only do 8-9,000 miles a year so the difference in fuel milage between 19mpg and say 25mpg is about £200-odd quid. I've mostly had v6 or v8 engines all my life, I like 'em, so £20-odd quid a month is neither here nor there really.

I have been getting about 16 MPG out of the C230K on the last tankful
215 miles to the orange light - 52 quid of optimax quenched its thirst! ;)

Ouch!

I've just filled up, got 25.3mpg (317miles/57.09 litres) lots of queues in the snow drank the fuel I think :(

I just employed a new policy of not busting 2k rpm until the next fill-up (about 4 days probably), will be leaving huge gaps in front of me, won't be braking for anything to keep momentum up and will probably not bust 50mph on the motorway (due to rpm). I will have become my own nemesis!

Let's see what happens :)
