Engine size vs Fuel

I just employed a new policy of not busting 2k rpm until the next fill-up (about 4 days probably), will be leaving huge gaps in front of me, won't be braking for anything to keep momentum up and will probably not bust 50mph on the motorway (due to rpm). I will have become my own nemesis!
Well, that lasted long! ;)

The car doesn't actually accelerate if you don't go over 2k rpm, but 2500 is about right, so I've stuck to that, right now it seems good (ticked over 100 miles at the "full" tank level ;) )

I get around 20 to 25 out of the S500 coupe which for a car 17ft long with 300bhp is very good.
My old 560sec did 12 to 18 wonderful car though wish I'd kept it.
The 190 18 to 22 but its a lot of fun

There is an optional South Africa tank for the w202 and probably other MBs as well :)

Is there an optional tank for a W124 E300D T model? Standard tank size = 70 litres.
Is it **practical** to retrofit a larger tank? ie not absurdly expensive.
Cheers

diesel

Just chipped my c220cdi so it goes like skink from 1600rpm and is returning about 32 round town, 44 on a m/way run. the way to go?

I can't find part numbers for the items, not on the W202 or the W124. I know they exist though :(

Meanwhile I'm about to bust 400 miles from the last tankful. Going to fill it up later and work out the MPG. Tomorrow I have to do about 420 miles round trip so it will be interesting to see if I'd make it on a single fill-up.

Thanks for looking it up
Just examining possibilities for increasing an E300D estate's range - about 850kms with 70 litres but say an extra 20 litres would take range to 1,100kms - russia is big!
Cheers

There was an option for the petrol models 80Litre tank.

Use a tank from anything but a 200 or any of the diesels as they all have the smaller tank.

It must have been so drivers could see the guage go down at the same rate as petrols. :D

My Consumption

Hi Peeps..

Glad someone has raised this again... coz I have been keepin a close watch on my W203 C Class C180 2Litre. I reckon that £40 in the tank gets me 270 miles on a short run with the best ever being about 400 on long motorway runs. However just filled it up this morning and the orange light was glowing - and I had only done about 225 !! jeeez...

I try not to boot the thing to often and keep the revs below 3000 where poss - as i have heard that this is the most economical fuel efficient way of trying to keep hold of ya fuel! Anyone else experience this?

I am new to Mercedes - love the beast! But I do find their fuel guages a bit temperamental at times.. sometimes ya never know how much you got left.. and am not one for running on fumes i.e. relying on the rangeometer!

I have to get some fuel later today but I'm up to 440 miles so far on this tank, I'm estimating I have about 4 litres left, that's 34.5 mpg :)

440!!! Thats a lot.

I havent done a full tank yet on the C230 but in 24litres have got 130 miles.

445.3 miles / 60.91 litres = 33.23 MPG.

I could have got more if I'd not hammered it a bit in the last 50 miles or so ;)

I reckon 35 MPG is achieveable, that lot was done at 70-80mph on the motorway with a few 50mph stretches for roadworks, a couple of stop/start queues and some carpark/town driving. I don't think 35 MPG is bad for a 230k.

That's 24.62 MPG :)
