F1 2024

Shame for Russell but rules is rules. Mercedes owned up to it.
Would have been an impressive 1-2 for the team as well.
But for the grid drop Verstappen would have been favourite.
Perez again disappointing. Red Bull meeting tomorrow to discuss the driver line up for 2025.
Wouldn't surprise me if Lawson gets the seat now. I thought Ricciardo was a shoo= in but not any more. 54 seconds behind Russell today.

Only just seen the race, and it was a cracker.
Then just now found out about the under weight issue for George.
My guess it would have been a combination of a set of very well worn tyres which did 3/4 of the race(!) and a well worn plank.
Pity, they actually deserved a one two finish.

My thought too, the tyres must account for most if not all of the weight differential.

Mercedes always impress (me) with how they take things like this in good grace.

I‘ve just heard that there was no cool down lap, and so there was no opportunity to pick up marbles. That can’t have helped either.

1.5kg under is quite a bit. Picking up marbles should be insurance, not a necessity. Own goal by the team and a bit tough for George who made the right call to suggest the one stop. But, underweight is underweight.

If it is down to the tyres on his occasion then it is a bit of an own goal for the regulations as well IMO.

Not really IMHO.

The teams know they don’t get a cooldown lap at Spa, so picking up marbles isn’t an option. They know how much weight loss they get from tyre wear etc. Not meeting minimum weight requirement is a pretty basic error by the team.

Second race in a row where the real winner's name isn't on the results sheet. Shame.

(I did wonder briefly whether Hamilton was sandbagging to let Russell win; the team would still have had a one-two finish, so maximum points, and neither is in contention for the drivers' title. If it had been Verstappen in second, with his team-mate in the lead, on the same points as Hamilton and Russell, that wouldn't even have occurred to me as a possibility...).
