Ford Escort Twin Cam 1970

The nuts holding the carbs on were tensioned by setting the correct gap in the spring washers with a feeler gauge. This was enough to allow the carbs some damping as the fuel in the float bowls would aerate with the shaking of the engine.

This one belongs to a friend Redirect Notice

Its a genuine factory car, built at Boreham next to one of Mr Clarkes!

Until I saw 1970 TC, the dream was either a silver RS1600 with black vinyl roof, or a mex in red with white stripe or white with red stripe, now there is another in the list of cars will probably never have the chance of owning again. Oooh and those Lotus steels:thumb:

That towing this would look nice...

To my eternal shame I destroyed a Mk 1 as a 17 year old imbecile. At the time (1989) it wasn't seen as all that special, it was bought as a first car gift by my petrol headed uncle. I remember him saying look after this, that phrase played through my mind as the fire brigade released me from the mangled wreckage!

I remember that well as i had a flat spot on idle on the Mk2 at 1500rpm and i regularly replaced the O rings on the plates between the carbs and inlet manifold.

I have forgotten the name of the coils springs as they were special, the gap was 40 thou...

I had the Daytona Yellow Mexico, no stripes, in 1976 it was a `75 model just 6000 on the clock....no joke ...what a boring sounding motor...did go ok but i sold it 8 months later for another Lotus Cortina Mk1
