Formula 1 2022 (Will Contain Spoilers)

It will never happen but I’d love to see RB pull in the reserve driver for the last race of the season. Send little boy Max a firm message as to who is boss.
RBR's willingness to tolerate (and excuse) Max's dirty driving earlier in his F1 career have lead to - if not created - what we see today. And that willingness continues.

Was Perez instructed to let Verstappen past (in order for MV to attack Alonso - with the understanding that if MV failed to pass FA then Verstappen would give Perez back the position)?

Well did not see the race but what MV has done is say to Red Bull you do not call the shots I am the champion and I will do what I want, but he has also put Perez in his place which is not in front of MV ,the put down is so huge that Perez is finished.

Moreover Red Bull have the opportunity of having a 1-2 in the drivers' championship. Verstappen's behaviour compromised that.
Absolutely. And also diminished the chances of instant collaboration the next time Perez is told to let MV through or to hold up another driver.

Well. IF Checo misses out on P2 in the drivers championship after the last race it’ll be on Max’s head.
The 'one two' in the WDC is one of the last - if not the last - unachieved goal for Red Bull. Horner said so in an interview for Channel 4 at the weekend.
I could overlook him not letting Perez pass (Ferrari called it right IMO in not depriving Sainz of his well earned third place) were it not for Perez having earlier gifted him the position with an agreement in place to give it back if Alonso was not overtaken.
I wonder if Verstappen will leak to the press his reason(s) for behaving as he did. Horner says it stays within the team - as if what Horner says matters...

All to do with Perez deliberately crashing at Monaco to keep Max behind him on the grid, to paraphrase The Independant.

The FIA statement on why Max Verstappen was penalised for Lewis Hamilton contact at Interlagos from planetf1:

"The stewards reviewed the video from several angles, including In Car Cameras, CCTV and broadcast video. The stewards determined that Verstappen attempted to pass Hamilton on the outside of Turn 1 by braking very late. He did not complete the pass in Turn 1 and his excess speed compromised his entry into Turn 2, at which point he made contact with Hamilton. While the stewards recognize that Hamilton could possibly have given a little more room at the apex of Turn 2, the stewards determined that Verstappen was predominantly at fault."

+1

If called out on his behaviours now, then Max would be left confused because RBR have allowed similar behaviours in the past and over a relatively long period of time - he’d quite rightly ask “what changed”?

Max is a product of the way he has been managed by his Dad and now RBR. They’ve created a driver who has been conditioned to win at (almost) any cost - and then defended him for it - he’s a laser focussed winning machine.

Schumacher and Prost spring to mind as being F1 drivers with a similar mindset although I suspect that was down to natural inclination rather than having been behaviourally engineered to be like it (like Max has).

Mactech will know the answer to this, but I did wonder whether the team engineers might have sufficient control to temporarily reduce power in a situation like this, to enforce team orders. Probably a thousand and one really good reasons why they’d never do it even if they could!
No they can't! Only the driver can alter the car settings via the steering wheel when it is on the circuit, so there is no way the engineers can play 'god' with the cars. They can only control (a limited number of things) when the car is hard wired in the pit box. The telemetry from car to pits is very strictly a one way system!

About the only thing the pits can do during a race is contrive a slow pit stop, which of course is only possible while there are stops to come.

Well, Checo has confirmed any doubt in his head (if ever he had any) about who is in charge of the team. Almost identical to the Multi-21 where Webber stated 'Seb will get protection from the team as always', same goes for Max. Checo is now damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He knows that if he disobeys RB (or goes against Max) then his contract will be over. If he does as he's told, he will never be a champion in a championship winning car. He does have to up his game though as he s not as quick as Max consistently enough

Was Verstappen's performance in Brazil hampered by carrying the extra weight of a grudge against Perez? Or a delusion?

Hard to say that Perez's spin was premeditated but Verstappen obviously believes it was.

We are all somewhere on narcissism scale. For some individuals it's pathological ! It's a vital evolutionary development and essential for self preservation. Some are further along the scale than others and this is revealed depending on the environment such as competitive situation that is a Formula One race. Most of the great drivers exhibit a degree of this--- Senna, Schumacher, Verstappen , Vettel and Hamilton. This is not a fixed characteristic but can change with personality maturity and its interesting that Vettel has become less competitive of late. One of racing ironies is that as you become a better person to those around you----your drive to win at all costs diminishes
