Sorry, Max, but you’re the one who has been allowed to (wrongly, IMO) take the pi$$ and continue to do so. You treat the stewards with contempt, and can’t countenance the fact that, just maybe, you’re out of step with the rest of the drivers, not the other way around.

^ Max doesn't seem to think the rules apply to him. He has been like that for a long time.
Outside of F1 I'm sure he is a nice fun guy, but I just can't take to him on track. Very much like Schumacher.

Who can blame him for thinking he’s done nothing wrong? For far too long he’s been allowed to get away with murder by his team, the Stewards and the FIA.

If as a child I helped myself to what I liked from the supermarket, starting with an apple and working up to a trolley full of all sorts - whilst my parents, the security guard and store manager watched - then after doing it for years I would also think it was fine continue taking more and more, and be confused when they eventually called the Police.

But if there was it would be stating the 'bleedin obvious to say..

'Listen Lew my son, just qualify on pole and when the lights go out fack off into the distance and stay well away from that Max boy and his bloody mate Checco . ...you listnin' to me ...?

Sound advice. However I don't suppose it will be that simple even if there were no safety cars, red flags, tyre stops, undercuts, overcuts, tyre deg, lapping of slower cars, driving errors or wild driving.
Can't remember last time I saw any of those

It is exactly 8 years to the day since I was last at the Yes Marina circuit and can vouch for the fact it is quite warm enough for a Brit.


We were running the Bentley GT3 car in it's very first race, a nice little 12hr event to break it in gently(!) and get a podium finish.
As a new team, we were positioned at the end of the pit lane by the tunnel entrance.

I suspect the temperature will be even hotter for some Brits there this year.

Great job from Max and RBR. Got a great tow off Perez and nailed the lap. Will be interesting tomorrow with the differing tyre strategies.

Verstappen's tyre strategy was self inflicted. He severly flat spotted his last set of mediums in Q2, meaning he had to set a faster time on softs to avoid starting the race either on wrecked tyres or from the pit lane.

Yeah, picked that up in the later analysis. Looked more significant to me at the time. It may be that putting the lower drag/downforce wing on, RBR have found a sweet spot on the red tyres. Certainly makes for an interesting day tomorrow.

For me, Lando was the most impressive in qualy. Anonymous in practice, Q1 & Q2 then puts it 3rd when it matters.
As they say, all to play for tomorrow!

Given Max’ advice to his Dutch fans was to ‘Turn on the TV, something nice is going to happen. I’m going to win.’ I would enjoy the irony if he took himself out.

However, I expect a strong race from him today. With different tyre strategies, anything can happen.

Could make for an interesting "controversial free" race hopefully.

In fairness the way the grid is set up with Red Bull on the softs they (he) should be able to get away and not do any banger racing but you never know.

Going to be interesting later on as I'd guess the Red Bull would need to fly and be a full pit stop ahead to allow them to switch to a 2 stop race which seems unlikely.

So they will likely need to try and nurse the tyres to perhaps around Lap 20 for the switch but then could be at risk of either an undercut or even an overcut with the Merc. on the mediums>hards.

I think everyone in the top 10 except the Mercs. on softs?

An additional factor will be how far Sergio can go on a set of softs, could make for some intrigue.
