It's just too big and aesthetically unpleasing, mainly the bookshelves on each end.

They undoubtedly do what the designers want and allow the car to go faster for longer (thereby making overtaking more difficult) but they do nothing for the soul. I've no doubt a 911's numbers are better in every respect than a Daytona's, but I know which one I'd rather have sitting on the drive.

Being a bit of a Lewis Hamilton fan I purchased a new cap when I was in the MB showroom.
It wasn’t till I got home I realised it was No. 77 Valteri Bottas’s cap instead of the No. 44 for Lewis.

I suppose I will just have to grin & bear it as I too will not be watching on the Sky robbers channel.
I'm also a fan of LH44 and tried to get some WDC gear for Xmas last year. I wasn't successful as the delivery company never made any attempt to deliver the goods. I'll probably try again when the season starts. I'll be watching on Sky though. I got it slightly cheaper than the advertised price...

Cricket - 2005 Ashes peak viewing 8 million

Cricket - 2013 Ashes peak viewing 1.3 million

Its an absolute pity that sport can't see the big picture and just chases the £ all the time.. and when we get done over again in the Ashes (like last month) it wonders why.. No-one watches Cricket anymore, so no inspired youngsters/future players watching except those few that bother to sign up to Sky.. Such a Shame....

End of F1 for me too... again, a shame...:(

It should not need to be the end of F1 entirely. I thought that as part of the agreement with SKY, there was a requirement to make highlights available to a free to air channel. It may be far from ideal but better than nothing. MotoGP has been operating in the same way with a 1 hour highlights program on Monday night. The problem of course is avoiding knowledge of the race results

You might find Adrian Newey's recent book instructive........it will not make the wings any more aesthetically pleasing to your eye but it does give a real insight into the challenges and complexities of making a car slide through the air with minimum resistance whilst having to work within regulations and the many variables encountered at different tracks. Easy reading.

I agree there, however, we’re not talking about road cars. It’s evolution of F1. Numbers matter. No points awarded for a car being pretty.

I do indeed fully appreciate the reasons for the cars looking the way they do, and I don't blame the designers for exploiting the rules as far as they can. It's just that in my insignificant opinion the current set of rules produce very ugly cars.

I'll have a look for the Newey book, thanks for the tip.

As per MicB's recommendation, Adrian Newey's book has been ordered for some interesting reading après-ski.

Aston Martin to power RB in the future? :dk:

Highly likely. I'm sure the Renault contract runs out this year and MB and Ferrari are not going to power them.

I agree. Would be good for the Aston Martin brand and they would use the opportunity to develop hybrid powertrain technology for their road cars.

I'm pretty certain I read that Aston Martin and perhaps one other would like to enter F1 but not under the current engine rules. From what I recall they feel energy recovery from the turbocharger is overly complicated and expensive, but the existing manufacturers are resisting change.

I may have misread and /or misremembered some or all of the above, but if F1 wants new entrants they may have to compromise.
