Boullier resigns

I thought this might happen after the end of the season.

Whatever its actual shortcomings the Honda engine was a useful excuse last year. After last years's inference that the chassis was a front runner and the engine was the issue then they left themselves nowhere to hide after this season.

For all that McLaren were deemed to have made a mistake going with Honda - perhaps with hindsight it's even more of a mistake that Honda went for McLaren.

I think comparing Williams with McLaren is poignant - but the two organisations have different corporate ambitions. McLaren has its road car division and is clearly looking for the F1 race team as part of the brand. And they have investors. It does make sense for them to move forward with the F1 team and support it.

Yeah. I enjoyed the F1 show last night Live from Silverstone. Amazing how a few of the drivers couldnt even kick a football in the direction of such a big target. Posh kids eh? :)

Looking forward to seeing and hearing from JB This weekend as he’s a Sky F1 guest. All round nice guy IMO.

Come on McLaren.

Give us something to cheers about.

Ron Dennis, Button, Honda, now Boullier the phrase "Not Waving but Drowning" comes to mind?

You can add many more to that list Graeme: Newey, Kimi, Lewis & Fernando to name a few.

They’ve let a lot of talent slip through the net over the years. Sad for such a team with great history. :(

'Waving not Drowning'. Not there yet. But time is precious. Another season potentially wasted. The departure of M Boullier suggests that they were not making progress. And last WDC a decade away. Back to an engine with a works team - which is exactly what they were trying to avoid. And stuck in F1 where the stupid regulations make it hard to develop your way out of trouble once the season starts.

Maybe the solution is something radical. McLaren refocus on say sports cars. Winning LeMans with the emphasis on hybrids surely is a good match to their road car strategy. Let the F1 team fester a bit, let Alonso go from F1 but keep him for sports cars, and even though you let it wither but keep it going with a view to rebuilding and investing for when the regulations change.

Maybe he got tired of 'pushing an elephant up the stairs'. Something fundamentally amis with McLaren F1 these days.

Not impressed with Brendan's Toro Rosso this morning. Proper squeaky bum moment! Wouldn't want to be Pierre Gasly either...

It doesn’t loook that busy at Silverstone today - lot of empty seats in the (free) stands.

Interesting that Toto Wolfe chose to criticise Bottas for failing to beat the Ferraris rather than praise LH.

Well Wolfe is not the best guy to be in charge at Mercedes, that said Bottas had shown that he could nearly match Hamiltons time around the circuit but when it came to the crunch he failed,it is the price you pay having a top driver and a second driver it makes for a easy life but having to top drivers means there is friction and a whole lot more management needed to keep the show on the road.

.

What has someone's background and the assumptions you have placed on that have to do with the ability to kick a ball at a target?

It was a flippant remark referring to the fact that many (not all) F1 drivers spent the majority of their childhood racing Karts and so less likely to be on a field kicking a ball around with their mates.

For example one of the drivers said he hadn’t kicked a football since he was 5-6 years old.

Is that ok?

If it is OK for you.

I know someone who became an Olympian swimmer, they were up at dawn each day for training from an early age and they would never have time to kick a football but they certainly did not come from a privileged background.I just do not see how it is any sort of useful point of reference.

I last kicked a ball aged around 10 as we did not play Football at school but for reasons lost in time we did just the once, The ball came to me whilst in our half so not knowing what I should do I hoofed it away and watched it sail over the opposition and land in the goal!:D
