Formula One 2018 - General Thread

From the BBC website

After being asked for his thoughts on the race while on the podium with Vettel and Raikkonen, Hamilton - while appearing to look towards the Ferrari drivers - said: "Interesting tactics I would say from this side, but we'll do what we can to fight them and improve in next races."

I don't think the Kimi incident was deliberate, but Lewis recovered brilliantly. Bottas was doing well holding Seb at bay, but seemd to lose the will tofight after he passed, I think he should have stayed in front of Kimi

Was an awful lot of whinging from Hamilton again during it!
If it is whinging, then perhaps he’s entitled when giving 100% at 200 mph, and things aren’t quite right from his 150 (or however many it is) support crew. But I think it’s more to do with the way his voice comes over on the radio and most of the time he’s just passing on information on the situation at the time.

However, what a great race. One of the best I’ve seen for several years.

Great to see Jenson too. Think he’d make a good addition to the Sky team.

Bad boys Silverstone! At the start of Channel 4 screening of the race. the union flag was shown upside down. Didn't stop me enjoying the race though. It's a pity that tyre strategy was not correct when the safety car was deployed. Lewis will get his own back in Germany, I hope.

I reckon its whinging as he does it at every race he isn't leading!

Great race, helluva recovery drive & good last few laps

Interview as they get out of car is not a good idea

Not watched an F1 race for months and months now, but the accident (and it was) the nudged LH made it unmistakable.

Not deliberate from Kimi, uncharacteristicaly clumsy move though. Great recovery drive from Lewis. Disappointing from Valteri at the end, but it did look like he was struggling for grip. Strong drive from Seb who deserved to win. Last ten laps were great.

Last ten laps were great.
They were, but they would have been as dull as ditch water if an act of fate hadn't caused the safety car to be deployed. If only F1 would sort out their aero so that close-quarters racing was viable it could perhaps become as interesting to watch as Moto GP ;)

Based on what I read here and elsewhere that's undoubtedly what the viewers want, but when every rule change brings greater reliance on aerodynamics I can only assume those in charge want the cars to go as fast as possible everywhere on the track at the expense of close racing.

Well, Ross Brawn has got all the teams to agree to major wing changes for 2019. It should see a reduction in downforce, but more importantly much 'cleaner' air behind the car. If that proves to be a step in the right direction, then the brand new regs for 2021 should see a much bigger step to make the cars much less aero reliant.

.....but knowing that downforce equals lap time, there will a few hundred people per team working hard to claw back the deficit....;)
