Hi Iv not had my 1999 C200 long and Iv just got 180 miles out of 40.400L of fuel (£50) is this good? I'm use to driving a diesel so it's been a bit of a change for me!
It's all town driving and Iv been driving like a grandad! Lol, Iv even had it in winter mode as I beleve that more economical.
Does this sound right?

Cheers,
Sy.

Iv just tried working it out and it seems like I'm getting 18MPG that seems a bit low?

Cheers,
Sy.

4.5 miles per litre / 20.4 mpg sounds low, however a lot depends on the way you drive, distance per trip, outside temp etc, etc.

I drive very steady, trips are normally short (2 to 6 miles a trip) and out side temps have been low the the last couple of weeks, also I live in a very hilly area so maybe that's about right.
I think I'll give it a good service maybe that'll help.

Cheers,
Sy.

Hi

You have the same car as me. I'm not saying I would get this around town but the last long trip I did I brimmed the tank before and after and the fuel consumption worked out at 39.8MPG!! I was quite shocked (in a good way). This was over 304 miles and about 50/50 on the cruise control motorway at 80MPH and 50 - 60 on A roads. I'm guessing something needs looking at on yours.

Thats very low. you should be getting 400 or close to it on a full tank of fuel in a c200. 40L and only 160 miles means you'll only get 240-250 miles out of a full tank and thats almost as bad as the C43 V8..!

Iv had two 202 c200s pre and post facelift, I can remember getting approximately 90 to 100 miles for 20 pounds petrol in the pre facelift but that was about 4 years ago when fuel prices were somewhat 'humane'. But more recently I would get approximately 80 miles for 20 pounds of fuel in the facelift. All city driving mainly very short trips and mixed driving. good on long distance trips though, I remember getting 350 miles or so on a tank when driving up north.

Now I'm driving a 2100 e320 cdi auto, nd I get approx 120 miles from thirty pounds diesel! Not bad for a 3.2 litre barge eh? And mainly city driving too!

Welcome to the world of Mercedes ownership, where happiness comes with a damn hard kick up the backside!

i get 54 miles for £12.00 worth of fuel on my 95 plate w202 1.8 petrol (27mpg) combined economy

spoke to a guy yesterday who had the c200 w202 and he was getting 32 miles costing him £9.00 at the pump

Filled up with Shell V-Power on Friday - £71.60 for 52L . Did 238 miles yesterday, 200 of them motorway. Did my best to keep to 70 or less for economy (yes, I could use cruise...but it's too much effort ;)). Tank still half-full when I got home. Fairly unscientifically, I think that's over 40 mpg :thumb:. With normal unleaded, I would have been expecting little more than 30. So the extra cost of V-Power (8-9%) easily pays for itself.

I have used V-Power for over a year - the car seems to like it. Would be interesting to see how you other W202 C200 drivers find it.

Andrew

Given the conditions you describe, start stop, hill's, cold temp and engine probably on full choke, I'd would expect the sort of figure you are getting, late teen's.

I've just filled up the 1999 C240 with 41.57L after doing 160miles. This equates to roughly 17MPG-all around town so I don't believe your MPG is that bad.

I usually put 55 litres/12.2 gallon in and get about 270/280 miles, thats 22 mpg.
Mainly driving to work, 4 miles, to my mums 0.5 miles, the gym 2 miles, tesco 1 mile - all each way.
I get about 3 weeks from each tank fill up.

That's pretty bad ! My 2000 C280 does better than this, roughly about 23/24 mpg.

As a constant urban driver that seems right to me -as i've only averaged 18mpg over last 16years from an average of 1800cc
My 99 2.0 Mondeo auto was 16mpg(12 with a/c), Pug 1.6 auto -18-20mpg- i could go on with Rolls Royce mpg from 4 cylinder euroboxes:wallbash:
I'm quite impressed that my Rover 2.5 V6 after having some serious engine work done has improved from 14.5mpg to 17mpg
But remember tali's 99/50 Law which states that 99% of drivers get 50% better MPG than official figures:crazy:

Driving "normally" , that is to say without regard for getting good economy - or excessively fast - my petrol 2004 W203 C200K returns about 38mpg.
The best I have ever got was 52mpg on a very steady drive home from Basingstoke one evening.
The worst was 11mpg on the night of the heavy snow last December when I was stuck in crawling traffic for nigh on 6 hours to do 20 miles.

These figures are shocking and make me feel a lot better about running a big V8 which I can seemingly get better MPG out of than some of you with engines one third of the capacity despite the fact I live in London.

Average MPG Calculated over the long term fuel usage on my households vehicles

Volvo S60 (2.4 Diesel) 39mpg
W201 (2.0 Petrol) 28.5mpg
R129 (5.0 petrol) 24mpg
Suzuki GSXF (1.2 petrol) 26mpg
