Gearbox Oil

Hi guys, very quick question. Is it worth factoring in having the gearbox oil changed in my CLS?

The car is a 2007 has 17k on the clock so not sure if it's necessary. I've found through here a relatively local independent specialist who offers the auto gearbox oil change at a decent price.

Is this a necessity? Read online some recommend yearly changes but it's a new element of servicing so thought I'd ask the Merc experts!

Thank you mate. So you'd do it based on mileage rather than age?

Auto boxes are a new thing on me but seeing how essential the oil is to an automatic I want to maintain it as well as possible. :)

I would think it's more mileage dependent than age, yes. We're talking about a powerful car here but I would think the gearbox is more than capable of doing 40k without needing an oil change.
Some one may correct me, but I believe some autos were originally designed to be 'sealed for life' units that would never require an oil change, don't think that worked out though...

I must admit my common sense would lead me to think that 40k+ is realistic but that's just my thoughts rather than anything.

I do understand modern synthetic oils are more resilient to breaking down over time than old mineral oils. Always good to check these things.

Absolutely worth asking, definitely not something to ignore in blissful ignorance!

Every 40k is sufficient. 17k is a bit early imo

Ignorance is not always bliss. :thumb:

Especially if you get a whacking great bill because of it haha
