Halfords Autocentres messed up undertrays - where to get new ones cheap?

Find yourself a good mercedes specilist and stick with them, they may charge a little more but the job is done properly.

I suppose fitting the sheilds properly will mean that they use more cable ties, classy.

Where in the country are you?

Stevenage/Cambridge. The Halfords branch in question here is Welwyn Garden City.

The problem is not so much that they used cable ties. The problem is that they used those ties to join one shield to another - with no connection at all to the bodywork.

When I complained they said that the reason they used ties is because there were ties there when the car came in. I do not know whether it is true or not. However if at least they used ties to attach these covers not just to each other but to the body of the car as well I am quite sure this would not have happened.

Well I tend to do most things to my car myself. But 50 pounds for synthetic oil + flash + fuel injector cleaner + filter change looked very attractive (I used their Fuel Service Plus option) as well as the fact that they work almost full day on Saturdays.

DIY for me has two advantages - not just labour charge saving but also holiday time saver. If I had to take the car to a mechanic chances are I would have to take a day off. In the best case scenario wake up early on Saturday.

My only experience of Halfords was when I took my dad's car there for 2 new tyres.
Drove away.
Everything appeared fine.
A couple of months later when doing a service on his car, I found that they had
used the wrong socket size on his wheel nuts and rounded them all.
Mental note ... I will gouge my eye with a rusty knife before I will ever use Halfords for anything again.

Took it back to them for a repair. The amount of rubbing against the road the undertrays had at speed during the week meant that oil undertray was a complete wreck. The front undertray could be tied with three screws but the back side on one side had to use ties. But that should not be a problem as I ensured they tied it to the body, and in any case the airflow will actually help rather then distort things for the backward side of the undertray.

Thats why I service my car myself.

Its a hobby as well so keeps me interested.

I can't trust some of the monkey mechanics out there.
