Hi

I am thinking of putting a heated seat element into the base of a 124 with MB Tex. I have done a search on here with no real success. Has anyone done it???

Thanks,

Worth a look on e bay for the universal kits, kits on there from usa you can cut about to fit and will still work okay but cant remember name also have two heat settings and 4 pads for 2 seats for about £50.

I lied its for 1 seat! see here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Universal-Dual-Pad-Carbon-Fiber-Heated-Seat-Heater-Kit_W0QQitemZ160224980717QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item160224980717&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Hi

i've considered these aswell. You could even cut off the aftermarket switch and wire the proper merc heated seat switches onto it - you'll need new wood trim though.

This is the route i will go down for next winter - i've had heated seats in all my cars for the last 5 years so i miss them alot on cold winter mornings. Main thing that puts me off is the fact you'd have to remove all the seat trim to fit them.

Alternatively, you can get those 12v seat pads that go OVER the existing seat - look horrible, but keep your bum warm!!

My car has heated seats but the drivers side has gone open circuit and as they are two stage as are the cheapo ones from e-bay i may get some and try them as i have had heated seats for years and hate being cold.

That looks a lot better value for money as it does two seats and the heater pads are bigger than the kit i listed.

Well that seems good value and I have bought one to try for the W123... Will update once fitted...

where?

got mine today, looks ok but the switches are crappy.. doesnt look like they even light up.. might try and see if I can find some W126 ones instead as W123 ones are £80 each!!..

cant you cut off the switches and wire them up to genuine merc heated seat switches?

any pics of the switches?

hi, they are just round toggle switches.. off, medium and super burner modes..

Im hoping that I can just use some W126 switches, otherwise I will hide these somewhere!

Mines already got heated seats (just dont work:( ) so i am just going to wire up to std wiring under the seat.

Yep thats the one each seat 2 pads bottom pad has 4 wires top pad has 3 wires leading into a loom that goes to supplied switch.

I cut off loom and wired into the mb loom under the seat all nice and neat, black to mb brown and green and red to mb blue.

So it works on the std 2 setting switch.

Only tried it for 5 mins after fitting but will get tested properly Mon on way to work.

If i remember i will take piccys when doing wifes seat.

Pic of pads, left pad i have slit along the length of the wires to enable it to be slid up either side of the vertical baskrest stitching due to the supporting foam for the original heater being 1 inch thick so heat would never penetrate the foam, pad now rests between leather and the foam.

Right pad is the bottom one and i only removed the very back of the cover held the support springs out of the way with cable ties and slid the pad into place, well 2/3rds hen it stopped due to two natty plastic clips holding a steel support rod in place took some effort to remove the rod finish fitting pad then refit clips for the rod through the new heater mat, this bottom mat is fitted under the old heater mat and its foam as the foam is less than a 1/4 inch thick so heat can get through.

The foam i mention is not the main seat shape foam its the seat leather cover/heater mat support foam.

Also pic of supplied switch, will be using this in wifes car but will tuck it on seat side trim somewhere out of site.

Wires on the right hand side are to the car elecs they are cut to remind me what goes where when i did the wiring.
