Has anyone retrofitted heated seat pads to 124?

I know exactly what you mean about them steel rods Lynall, right pain in the backside.
Ive just left mine in my room for when i can be bothered to do it again lol.

Yep just looking at my arm and the 6 inch scar/burn/drag mark etched into the flesh that bloody hurt as well:eek:

Got that pulling my arm out of the hole as i forgot to bring my torx home so had to fight my way under the seat back as well.

Just finished mine..

I didnt like the switches, look like they belong in a austin metro!

Anyway, I have a scrap SEC here and so i stole all the bits I needed. 2 Switches, wiring loom & control units.

Luckily the SEC uses same switches as a W123.

Just binned all the stuff that came with the kit, just used the pads..

Hardest bit is removing the seat trim..

Lynall - Not sure how yours works, but there are seperate wires for low and high heat... On low you have 12v just to blue wire and on high you have live to the blue and white. The way you have it wired you will have it on high all the time when on...

Im quite impressed but didnt have time to sit and wait for my bum to get warm so ill review later.. but seem to do the job.

Lynall, would it be possible to cut and 3 slits to make it an E type shape, without damaging the pad?
Would fit in the sportline seats then.

Yoy can make as many slits as you like, if you look closely at the pic you can see the coil of the wires, a bit like underfloor heating, but you can only cut down as far as i have in the pic.

Hi I would just like to ask a question on the subject of the heated seats. I have a 2003 CLK which does not have heated seats option and I’m interested in getting this fitted. Would the car have the wiring harness fitted or would I have to get that as well as the heated pads and the switches.

Surly oorjim2 could just use the kit as intended (with its own switches)...? then all he needs is 12v - no control units etc.

I've just bought new wood trim without the seat heater holes so i expect if i do this mod i will mount the switches on the plastic trim at the side of the base of the seat.

Yes if you use the supplied switch, it will work, but you will need to hide it!

I tested the seat last night..

It works well, but as my seats have a layer of foam inbetween the leather, it taks a bit longer for the heat to get through... it will work better on newer cars as leather has no foam in it...

I was going to do this mod on the R107 but dont think I will now as the foam padding is even thicker on that... also its not used in winter.

With MB-Tex i think there is quite a lot of foam in my seats - they look similar to both your lower pics.

will probably be next year before i will get to fit them so probably do the mod for next winter.

Hi

I fitted the seat pads to a 124 with MB Tex today. Only fitted the pads the wiring will have to wait.

Once the seats are removed i proceeded as the sequence in the following pics. Hope it is of help. Wife wasnt happy with me doing it in the kitchen though.

Thanks 230K - that will be very useful if/when i come to do mine.

I'll be interested to know how hot they get when you wire them up and also where you plan to mount the switchgear. Seems to be a lot of foam/padding on the tex seats.

hi

dont suppose anyone remembers where the cheapest supplier was for these heated seat pads? all the links above are dead now....

thanks

derek
