Do you mean the AMG variants ?

My 4.3 V8 ( non AMG ) doesn't use any oil , and doesn't smoke on startup :dk:

Tbh nor did my 2.5 year old 6000 mile S4 4.2 V8 that was perfect

Slightly O/T but what makes the AMG engines more handbuilt than any other. OK they say they are made by one pair of hands rather than multiple but they are all "handbuilt" aren't they?

I'm not sure if it's an issue, a friend of mine has a 59 reg C63pp and his does the same sometimes when he doesnt use it for a few days and then starts it up!

but it goes within 2 secs, only happends occasionally on cold start!

It sounds like a bit of oil is seeping down the valve guide seals when left standing. Not an issue.

^ I've got a bigger one than that already...

hence, no C63 needed... ;)

Have had to put just short of a litre of oil into my C63 after 4,000 miles. Is this normal?

Ive topped up a total of 5.0litres in 27,000 miles not including oil changes etc
i heard they can use as much as 1litre every 2000 miles
there are a few threads on this

There it's an issue with Batches of C63 engines. Been there with one of my customers. After x2 C63's. Mb gave him his money back. He now drives a BMW

I can never understand why people get excited and make a big noise when a car has a problem when under the manufacturers warranty cover, just take it back to be fixed.

With only 7k miles on the clock it could be that the rings need a good caning to make them seat better in the bores.

C63er,

Relax, it sounds like paranoia has set it. I felt this way when I bought the big motor, and then had blue smoke on start, but only ever had it once. It had been sitting there for a week in the bad winter last year, around 12k miles. If you are getting other symptoms then suggest you push hard to get the right result, perhaps get a second opinion from an expert (Olly perhaps). You have to be confident with your purchase and if you are not then throw it back and walk away.

Hope you get some peace of mind soon as I can see this driving you crazy.

Kamal

Yes. I had similar usage up to abpprox 12k miles.

All 63 AMG's have a puff of smoke on start up from cold, especially if left for a while. Even the SLS does it, wouldnt be worried.

You have a real case study with your mate, money back, I would have taken them to the cleaners with that kind of inconvenience. Allegedly this is true for a batch of engines, but no one across any forum has been able to confirm any details on engine numbers for the batch and other cases are not apparent on any of the UK forums. If you have more info please let us know.

Also, this was some time ago, it was a topic of discussion when I bought my 63, 18 months ago. I believe C63er has a newer model so would expect his is not from this older batch of engines. With such expensive situations I'm sure that AMG would have looked into the cause of the problems in that batch and rectified them, even if this is not shared publicly.

Back to C63er...it is a shame we don't know what the oil and coolant consumption is as this might help him decide whether to walk away or stick with it.

And neither has he yet clarified if this comment above means oil coming out of the tailpipes...

Hopefully there is oil leaking all over the place.

Free rust proofing long after the warranty runs out:D:D
