HELP!! Fear in The Wet. W203.

Any reason the 208 230k was bad in the rain?

I have one... hearing that doesnt inspire confidence! Then again I've found it a dream to drive so far, sticks fairly well for such a big barge.

Now that is true.

:thumb:

Picture this... you approach the car with your new lady... you want to go over to her side and open the door for her... then you notice (shock horror ) some autumn leaves stuck under the wipers.... do you:

(a) bite you lips and open her door first, then clear the leaves, then enter the car?

(b) dive for the leaves, leaving the girl to fend for herself, and by the time you get round to her side she's already in?

(c) collapse helplessly to the ground sobbing as you are unable to reach a decision?

Front or back door?:ban:;)

From around 1930 something :-

If a man opens a car door for a lady you can be sure of one thing...

Either the car, or the lady, is new to him.

just the engine can be snappy down low, i need mine lowered i have puney 225 tires on it as well, so these factors to me make it a not so great car in the wet, what wheels, tire, height setup do you run mate,

i do really want to get rid of the 208 in comparison to the 210 its no where near as nice to drive. a great car id have a 208 over any new bmw/audi but its lacking in some places regardles of engine size having recently driven a 320, bottom line i still like it but i love the 210

It really does sound like the OP has some of those nasty, cheap Chinese tyres fitted!! I changed all the nasty 'Linglong' tyres on my 211 to Kumho's and the noise, handling etc is now 100% better!!

At least one tyre on the back is a SUNNY tyre (never heard if them) and I’m wondering if the garage that fitted it went for the cheapest.

When I was buying the car I pointed out to the salesman that ONE tyre - on the back offside - was a bit low on tread and this is what he fitted.

I'm wondering if this tyre is a real Sh!t3 piece of work. I do know that the other side is NOT a Sunny tyre.

Views?

Sunny tyres - other chat rooms seem to think they CAN be awful - but some people say they're OK.
They certainly do fall into the budget range of tyres by the looks of things ...

Always worth getting decent tyres. And ideally the same on all 4 wheels.
Going slightly leftfield...
SAFC: Can you define 'wobble' in the context you use it?
And confirm absolutely you are experiencing a loss of adhesion as opposed to the ESP intervening without need?

It's been a long time trying to find out what tyre your have mate! :)

So are you now saying that you've got Sunny tyres all round? Have a look for all the details on the wheels, if there is a specific model etc and post it up here.

But, to be honest, even for cheapo tyres this seems rather extreme.

Another thing is that ideally all 4 tyres should be same make/model and age.

If you get two grippy tyres at the front and two less grippy at the rear, the back will come out in the wet.... original driving characteristics will only be persevered if all 4 tyres has same grip level.

When I got my 210 it had 2, Fullrun and 2, SAVA tyres. They were lethal in the wet, very very bad.

6, months ago I got 4, Michelin Pilot Sport 3's from Costco for £101 each with a 20% discount voucher (I always buy Michelin) and the difference is incredible.
I cannot make the triangle light up any more.

The Pilot Sport 3's are brilliant.

My C320 and the C32 both slide around when there is light rain on certain heavily trafficked roundabouts. These roundabouts often have standing traffic on them at rush hour so I put it down to greasy roads rather than poor tyres.

Bellow and Evreyone,
Sorry about the delay in my repsonses but I've been a bit busy !! (Trying to avoid redundancy!!).

I've got THREE Goodyears on and one SUNNY cheapo on the back offside.

When I say "wobble" I mean the car seems to be controlled by the ESP and the Triangle comes on when coming out of a wet roundabout at moderate speed.

Dump the SUNNY, you think?

... or try switching the SUNNY to the front?

Someone mentioned shocks.

At 65,000 miles would the shocks be suspect, does anyone think?

Definitely dump the Sunny. You are flirting with death having one odd tyre on the back, as has been said the grip and characteristics will be different and unsafe.

With the bad weather coming up do it NOW mate before you regret it. Fit a matching Goodyear.

I've got fairly new Falken 452's (16's) all round on my S203 - cost £60/corner fitted. Coming down from holyhead to London yesterday in nasty wet conditions, no problems or scary moments at all - and I was not hanging about! I also had the front suspension bushes done last year, so maybe that also helps.
