Various.
Does anyone know of a good, cheap car transporter in either of these areas. Roughly SE of Gloucester straight down the M5 to Bridgewater? It's 71 miles according to Google maps & both ends of the journey are within about 3 miles of the M5. The car, a 190E 2.3-16, is a non runner.

I've been given a silly "we don't want the business " quote from a firm suggested by BCA in Bridgewater & am shopping around.

Anybody with a trailer or the means to move a car fancy earning a few quid in the next week?

Look on ebay, there are usually several vehicle transporters looking for work.

Bear in mind that anyone who runs a recovery company and who uses a recovery truck to move cars is transporting vehicles illegally (and therefore possibly uninsured) unless they are effecting a bona fide recovery

VOSA can stop, and increasingly are stopping, recovery trucks and other commercial vehicles moving cars. They are also stopping 4x4s with trailers and checking plates, weights & tachos

This is one reason that legitimate vehicle moving companies charge good money

Doesn't this depend on how the truck was taxed. The only difference between a transporter and a recovery truck is the tax dispensation.

And is it not the company offering the service that is liable?

Is the car roadworthy and are you in the RAC or AA..........................if you get my drift:D Roadworthy not running maybe?

Are you selling a car in the Bridgewater Auction then?

I do know a guy but he is just past Taunton and usally busy, he chared me £50 for a 60 mile round trip, so probably not the cheapest but if you get stuck you can have his no.

Ady,

I'm moving my 2.3-16 restoration projectr to a 190 specialist who's just across the motorway from BCA.

Yes please, can I have your guy's number?

BCA Bridgewater charge me £35 to pick a car up or deliver to Chard. Is this a fair price ? I've never shopped around

What an eye opener this has been. This involves moving a non running 190E 71 miles, 65 of which are on 1 motorway. Easy access and pick up at both ends.

I've been quoted as high as £300 + VAT & as low as £90 cash in hand. The highest was a cowboy advertising low, low rates on gumtree. The lowest quote will do it tomorrow on his run home from delivering a new BMW from a Bristol BMW dealer to a BMW dealer in Newcastle - it's an easy earner for a guy going home with an empty truck. I found this man through Ady's guy, Mike. Thanks Ady!!

Ebay has some pretty cheap vehicle recovery operators who charge a flat 50p per mile, just none in the area I need.
