Help - SBC brake warning light coming on all the time.

which dealer is it?

I think its the dealer in Poole, Dorset (thats where he bought it from)

Thanks for all the advice - it sounds like he is really being fobbed off and needs to get the Star thing plugged in.

Most of his journeys are short (5-10 minute trips to town), so perhpas the battery is not charging enough....

I'll get him to go back again and then let you know what happens.

Thanks again for your help...

Its not the charge rate that is the problem, its often the voltage level before the start, when under 12volt the circuits do not load correctly and when you start the car the warning lights will be on. Just check the battery voltage before the first start of the day, if its under 12volt that can cause the problem

Indeed - 12.0V equates to only 25% charge, 11.9V is fully discharged.

:D :D Totally agree it's not the charge rate, but to my lay person's interpretation, it goes back to my first post. If the car is not having a long enough journey, then the battery is being asked to perform the impossible, plus will it shorten the lifespan of the battery? (question, not statement).

Good luck

John

This is really a catch 22 thing, the drain on the battery due to all of the wake up circuits soon takes the edge off a fully charged battery, batteries do not like being left in a discharged state and as you say will shorten the lifespan, probably the reason for so many threads on cars with 4 year old batteries and failure.
Since I built my own go to sleep circuit for my SL it will sit now for two weeks

plus will it shorten the lifespan of the battery?

Left standing at 12.4V (approximately 75% charge) or less will shorten a healthy battery's lifespan (the lower the voltage, the more rapid the damage). "Leisure" batteries used in caravans etc. are designed to be more resistant to this, but car batteries are intended to be fully recharged immediately after use (e.g. starting the engine).

More than likely the reason for fitting a AGM battery when there are two as they perform better than the lead acid type in these conditions

:) I think it very frustrating that if the battery does not have a decent charge we get really frightening, intimidating messages. I would much prefer a more factual alert and no doubt Television did mean 'measure', I'm terrible at bad spelling and leaving out parts of words.

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and so far it's a beautiful day. :bannana:

John

And I'm bad at terrible spelling, we have so much in common John.
