How do I change noisy cam followers

Hi , can anyone help me with instructions on changing noisy cam followers, I have a 190E 1.8 fuel injected 1992 car which has done just on 270000 miles and otherwise goes like clock work. I have flushed the engine and put semi synthetic oil in. I am pretty good with mechanical things but would like to know of any does and dont`s, I have a haynes manual but it does not seem to be user friendly on this subjectMany Thanks

I had a similar problem with my 230E after 264,000 mls. It was that the hydraulic lifters were sticking.
The cure in my case was to use a very thin flushing oil and drain it out, then add a couple of litres of ATF (automatic transmission fluid) to the new oil and ran it for about a month before draining.
As I live local to you, if you wish I could take a look and listen to your engine?

Hi Karl, I did use wynns flushing agent mixed with my last oil for 30mins tick over and 5mins at 2000rpm then drained and changed filter refilled with semi synthetic, now it sounds worse than before ?.

Hello Clive,
I don't rate these flushing additives at all. Go for a fill of "true" flushing oil, it has the consistancy of parafin or diesel and smells like it.
It doesn't need to be in very long to work and don't be tempted to drive the car with it in because it is too thin.
Drain overnight and fill with a thin oil, maybe 5W 30 and some ATF, leave in for about a month.
You should notice an improvement within a few days.

Many thanks Karl for your advice, I take it the ATF fluid is ok as I have around 18 miles to work the same back to Llansamlet Swansea, so I dont want it blowing up so to speak, where are you near to.?
