Hi guyz

Another quickie;)

About to have my 2001 C200k serviced this week and will bring my own oil to help reduce the cost. Does anyone know how many litres i will need?

The cost of an A service has been quoted at £245 but they have agreed to knock off £80 for oil plus 20% off labour and 10% off parts. So cant really complain!

Thanks in advance

Number of litres plus the spec will be in the service book. Not sure if your car has a long-life oil option but make sure you look at that before choosing the oil or you will find the next service due earlier than it need be!

They usually charge more than £80 for the oil so make sure you are not being "done" in the breakdown of the cost!

The A service is an oil & filter change plus a quick eyeball round the car.

You'll probably have to buy two 4 or 5L 'cans' anyway, so the exact amount doesn't really matter.

Just make sure you get back the leftover amount.

thanks guys...... this forum is a god send!

Im not sure whaty type of oil to use..... will go down to Costco and pick up the best thing they have.

What is the long life oil option?

Strictly speaking you should go the owners manual (sometimes the maintenance booklet) and look up "service products and capacities" - there will be a MB22x.xx spec for the oil there, together with the number of litres includiong a filter change.

The MB spec will be on the label of oils that meet it!

With some models, there is a standard and long-life MB spec and the car's service indicator or "next service due" mileage is set according to the oil used.

Not sure if this applies to yours.....

Costco usually have Mobil1 - that's 229.5, the top spec you can get.

Thanks guyz.... i popped over to Costco last weekend. Bought myself 2 x 4litre bottles of Mobil 1 0W40 Fully Synthetic Oil. Not bad at 23.99 each.

If you don't see your own oil being poured in you have no guarantee that they haven't used any old cheap gunk

I always worry about that - but it's no different from being charged for 229.5 (my dealer charges £12.95 + Vat per Litre!!) and the dealer putting any old gunk in.
If anything, they're less likely to put the wrong stuff in by mistake, and even if they do, at leastyou've paid less if you supply your own oil!
