Just a tip for anyone who struggles to clean between the letter on their badge - KOMPRESSOR owners in particular!

Autoglym Tar Remover. Disolvles the dirt without having to get your tweasers and cotton buds out!!

Squirt it on, leave for a second then just wipe over and it cleaned better than when I was trying to do it in detail with just shampoo.

I am seriously considering removing all my E220 CDI lettering stuff on the back to make it easier to clean (I can then get a clean run with the Porter Cable and I am a little lazy ;) ). The big debate is whether this will look cool or not on my black car.

the badges make mincemeat of polishing cloths and probably the pads too, I say get rid of them!

No, keep the badges, be proud to show off that you have a E320CDi.

Problem is its and E220, should I hide my shame?

removed badges offmy 220 cdi, simply wet them with soapy (fairy liquid) water thoroughly and slipped a credit card behind the badges and they just fell off! Makes cleaning and polishing way easier!

The Polishing Company MBCLUB Special Packs.

Mike at the Polishing Company has been working with me to provide a unique car care system suited to the Mercedes Vehicles. The Car-Lack Nano Technology Car Care system gives an alternative to traditional polishes giving high levels of UV protection and withstanding far greater temperatures. Actually Car-Lack 68 is neither a polish or a wax, but a combination of cleaners and preservers. CarLack is very similiar to Klasse (and may actually be made by the same people ;) ) but offers 10-20% improvements in performance.

Further to my brief introduction to CarLack in the start of the thread I thought it would be worth giving more detail. Car–Lack products have been around in Germany for over 20 years and the new “nano-technology” polish, so called because of the extremely small size of the particles used. It was awarded a Gold medal for surface protection as long ago as 1986! In 2004 Car-Lack announced a new formula Nano technology systematic care combining within one product a cleaner, tar remover, rust dissolver, preserver and the new formula acrylic wax coving surfaces with a micro fine covering. Car-Lack was selected by Mercedes Benz as a supplier as long ago as 1986. There motto is Quality not Quantity, (a view shared by Mike at The Polishing Company who has taken on only the best products in their class).
It should be noted that Car-Lack do not advocate the use of P21S or any other carnauba waxes on top of their products. However at show level this is common to produce the wet look shine that is so much admired and this is key to creating that amazing perfect shine.

Please note….. preparation is everything…… you can’t take a dull swirl marked surface to showroom shine without some work first. Depending on the state of the paintwork it may need compounding and polishing. This creates the shine. The polishes and waxes just enhance it.. If you don't enjoy giving the car a good Polish and wax you can always pay someone to do it to a professional level. So if you’d like your car professionally prepared without having to buy all the stuff in the kit then Mike will be happy to quote for detailing including, cleaning, paint decontamination, compounding, polishing and waxing plus interior care. To do it properly takes more than a couple of hours with a mop and some compound! So be warned if you want Mike to do the job for you prices start at £150 plus vat and expenses!

Mike also wants to personalise these to the MBCLUB so if anyone can forward the nice Logo or pictures so he can put this on the box for us that would be great!

So here are the kits and details of the products, we have tried to put together deals for every pocket! :D :

The products:

For anyone that isn't yet using a lambs wool mitt to wash their car, read on.

I bought and tried one today and will never go back to a sponge.

You do a better job and in less time.

You have you hand in the mitt, so hand to bucket and carry on washing is very easy. The mitt holds so much water and soap. The wool get into gaps in trim the sponge doesn't and as it's thin you have the control of your hand to follow contours in the car and light clusters etc. One pass with the mit and its cleaner than frantic rubbing with the sponge.

Everyone NEEDS one!

Thanks for that Graham - I've been toying with getting one for a while now. Now convinced. Where did you get yours from. I've seen them on ebay for about £10. Last time I was in Halfords - they didn't have any :(

Halfords - £7.99 I think for a lambs wool one. Cotton ones were anly a few quid, but the wool is far better I think.

ive used the ones from www.sheepskinshop.co.uk they are good ,the only fault is the opening for your hand is a little small,if you ask when ordering they will make the opening larger for wider hands

Great to see you have seen the light :D If you look after a lambs wool wash mitt they last for ages. I have been using a meguiars one for 6 months now and it is still fine. What is also great is if you are using the two bucket method when you put the wash mitt in your rinse bucket you can stroke it and feel for any grit or dirt really easily this way you can avoid swirling the car. Also with a good quality mitt any dirt on it goes into the pile so it reduces the chance of swirl. This does not happen with a sponge. The other thing is it protects your hand from those nasty bit that scratch you like under the wipers etc.

The Meguiars mitt has one side lambs wool the other has a fine net over the wool so you can use it as a bug remover, but I rarely use this. The hole for your hand is quite large. I also got one from Mike at the polishing company, this is very similiar to the meguiars but without the net, hole for hand is quite large.

Make sure it is lambs wool, there are a few synthetic mitts on the market, I had one of these but they are not as soft are more aggressive, I left faint swirl with one of these. I now use this on my wheels. The cotton mitts are not as good but a dry cotton mitt makes a good duster.

After each wash I rinse the mitt in luke warm water ( not hot) and then hang on a nail in the garage and let it drip dry, its ready to be used again.

Cool - trip in the offing in the morning then - although there is this one on Ebay. Twin pack

Hi Pammy,
We have a Meguiars lambs wool mitt (poor old lamb must be feeling cold) and another MAJOR plus point is how warm it keeps your hand. We use cold water and the mitt very quickly insulates the hand. Go for it!

John

I found that - with a rubber glove on underneath too for good measure, I was fine yesterday using freezing cold water.

Hi Graham,
:D :D In another life, when wearing a dry diving suit I used to wear a really 'nice' wooly under suit. I wonder what the neighbours would think if I slithered and crawled all over the car in this wet, soapy undersuit  :D

What a sad person I am. Please don't tell me you wear rubber gloves when washing up????

Take care ;)

No, my dinner plates are not the Mercedes of the crockery world and I am happy to let a machine see to them!!

I always wear rubber gloves when washing the car and washing up my ickle hands get all dry and sore if I don't :o :D If you lather the hand cream on beforehand - they come out all nice n soft :D

ordered the twin pack of mitts and can't wait for them to come. Has a washing sheepskin mitt and a polishing lamswool mitt - yum :D

update the mitts arrived today - they are terrific. One is very soft sheepskin, for washing, - both sides with nice wide wrist cuffs. The other, for polishing, is super soft lambswool - just one side. Both an excellent size and feel really good quality skin.

Came with guidance notes and also a little leaflet of their other products - you also get "loyalty" discount too :bannana:

Will report how good they are at the weekend - weather permitting ;)
