I think my engine is making oil!

Right car stammered to start this morning as no fuel rail pressure, switch off ign allow pump to build up pressure then burst into life, so almost certainly faulty injector.

Removed fuel rail and injector refit injectors to rail pressurise rail, leave for a couple of hours couple of drips on 2 injectors, this is with cold motor so guess would leak more when hot.

Trying to find injectors very little infe on the web part nos bosch 02801560 mercedes a1130780249.

Any suggestions for new injectors?

Thanks for the reply :) have you come across dribbly injectors on these before?

Spent ages looking on the web and couldnt find anything similiar, apart from above post with the 55 that wrecked the motor.

Company half a mile from my house is checking them for spray pattern sealing etc for £8 each:)

how many miles has the car done?
If getting highish then may be worth replacing anyway - i saw a 2mpg improvement in fuel consumption so the injectors have paid for themsleves over the last 20k miles or so.

105k on the speedo assuming its correct!

About bloody time they are testing my injectors as i write this, so in about 1 hour i will know if they are faulty.

New from merc £77.50 plus vat, 2nd hand from mercman £25 plus they will need cleaning testing etc.

Spoke to another shop today and they have seen this same fault many times on rover k series and any vehicle that runs bosch injector but hes never seen it on a merc typical:rolleyes:

He reckons poss dirty/ contaminated fuel may have caused it.

New fuel filter fitted by me 6 mths ago, so just to be sure have ordered another one plus oil and oil filter.

Right injectors back and fitted runs lovely but it ran lovely before this fault:) .

Injector place said they had perfect spray pattern and were not leaking.

So back in connected some gauges i borrowed and the pressure starts at 55psi and falls away after a short period on time (got to do a longer test yet) waiting for engine to fully cool.

Gauges now on wifes car so i have a benchmark to work to, it also starts at 55psi and slowly drops away, going to leave them on for 1 hour and see what pressure is then, do the same to mine, drive to work and test again with a hot engine.

Qiute frankly its starting to get on my ****

It is a rare occurance.

You should expect 4 bar of fuel pressure when running and holding at least 2 bar over night.

You have a strange fault BTW.

Ok, you have 4 fluids in the engine, oil, petrol, coolant and ATF fluid.

Only 2 of them are changing, one up, one down.

Fuel has to be getting in somewhere.

The fuel comes out of the injectors, so you need to know that they are spraying correctly, which you have done, now you need to know they ar spraying the right amount for the engine.

Pop and have an emissions test under load if possible on a rolling road, this should tell you if the correct amount of fuel is going in, also while on the rollers use an Infra Red gun and measure the exhaust temps on each cylinder under load, leave it loaded for at least 1 minute and they should all be reasonably close. If they aren't, swap the injectors around and if the high or low temp follow the injector then you have an injector, or injector control problem. IMO

Dave!

Thanks to the pair of you for the replies much appreciated:)

Ran to work ran lovely done its usual mpg maybe slightly better.

Checked pressure after 5/6 hours none at all.

Got home wifes bonnet up and checked the fuel pressure and guess what she hasnt got any either, not a drop:D .

So it seems to me car has 55psi running and slowly drops off overnight builds pressure up on first flick of the key, i was convinced this was a fault but apparently not as wifeys car is fine.

Oil changed so am going to run it for a few days checking the oil every day at work parked in the same spot and see what happens.

Will report back.

Am hoping one of the two injector people blew a piece of dirt or something out without realising it and this was the prob but i have my doubts.

Try a compression and leakdown test. I wouldn't be surprised if you have compression passing the rings.

Dont suggest that as i only sold my compression tester a few months ago thinking i never use that bloody thing that can go;) .

7 days have gone past now and the oil level has stayed exactly the same.

So the fault has apparently gone, but the annoying bit is i dont know what was at fault if you see what i mean:confused:

Fingers crossed off to Berlin soon.
