220CE COUPE,,
my 220ce 1993 has an ALPINE CDE-7825R cd player,, is this a standard fitment,,??,, and is it any good,, seeing that i know nothing about ice,, woofers,, crossovers,, subs,, etc,, read through all the ice posts,, still none the wiser,, recon a good set of replacement speakers will do it for me,, any suggestions for a middle price range set up,,??, direct replacements,, dont want to start cutting things up,,

If its an Alpine unit it wouldnt be standard. I am pretty certain of that. If you didnt want to go cutting anything or making things hard work I would recomend taking your speaker covers off the door speakers seeing what size they are and the getting the same size. Quality will be better than the originals as they will be the originals in the car.

A good Audio shop or dare I even say Helfrauds may have listings of speakers that are direct fitment for your car.

No door speakers in a coupe.

Do a search... the question has been covered before and the answer is there somewhere :)

Like you, I needed a cheap upgrade.

I upgraded the speakers all round to Infinity units. Changed the head unit to a relatively cheap JVC unit that also plays MP3's and stuck a self amplified sub in the boot.

The next step for me is to buy an amplifier for the speakers so I can have a crisper sound and filter out the rlow stuff from the speakers and let the sub do all the bass work.

To be honest, in your car you might want to consider separate amp and sub as getting bass through to the cabin isn't an easy task in W124's so you do need to go big.

What money are you looking to spend. as this is the main factor?

do you think this will work ok,,

kenwood krc-594,, head unit.

kenwood kdc-719,, cd changer.

alpine v power mrp-m350,, amp.

alpine v power mrp- t220,, amp.

kenwood 12" sub kfcw- 3009..

not sure of the price yet,,

I would say you would be ok with just one amp for the sub and the headunit to power the remaining speakers.

I was it just a choice of one amp or the other?

What thats all a complete kit? You got the web link so I can take a look?

Looks OK for the money although I cant see the point of ALPINE V POWER MRP-T220. Useless. You would nee the bigger amp to power the SUB properly which would then only leave you with the little 2 channel AMP. You could always sell it or just replace and AMP the rear speakers but you are better off keeping an even balance. The head unit should be more than loud enough.

It probably wont be that loud.

Even with the old C class Saloon I had it was amazing how much sound the boot held in. I have just got my AMP fitted back in the estate and  :D The power is awesome.

read somewhere to do away with the rear speakers and use the holes left by them to let the sub breath & take out the center between the rear seats,, then upgrade the dash speakers,, think it sounds ok,,??

Hmm you could try that but where possible I would always keep rear speakers. Do you have passengers in the back often? If so the sound would be very flat for them or bass heavy.

Hmmm... I think it way Iyse who tried that a while back on a W202. Not sure if it was him though... I wouldn't recommend it, the music at the back would sound horrible; not too mention that you would actually lose speakers that output on the mid and high frequencies as you are effectively removing 2 speakers.

I know that on a 202 the door speakers are a pain to replace, but I also know a 202 has 4 holes (2 sets of 2) drilled at the back, and only 2 used...

I would personally fit a set of 4 inch componemts in the front, 5 1/4 inch in the rears and drill a hole in the rear parcel shelf under the first aid kit cover to let the sound of the sub come through.

You could amp up the speakers inside the car from the head unit and run the sub from a mono amplifier.

If you're after a 10 inch Kenwood sub in the original 10 inch ported box, i have a brand new one sitting in my garage. Just send me a PM. I've also got a new set of Audiobahn 120 watt 4 inch speakers for the front of a W124.

How do you find the Audiobahn KLP for quality? I always thought it looks fancy but never really been impressed when I have heard it when used on any installs.

I agree, more show than quality. I was given them to put in my Brabus but i opted for Diamond Audio's instead.
