I have a new pc with a SATA motherboard etc and was interested in fitting a second HD.

Then on ebay I saw a 'IDE HD to SATA MB converter' for about £10. A small plug in for an IDE HD with a SATA cable to attach to the MB.

Got one and tried it with 2 different IDE HD's, 60 Gb and 17 Gb but it doesnt work

Basically the pc does not recognise the IDE drive is attached at all no matter what way round I try it . ie as master/slave, with/without jumpers etc

Anyone any ideas (apart from get a SATA drive  )

In the past i've found the cable connectors dont snap on like the IDE and they did not sit correctly i glued it in the end when i new it was working ok, no probs converting though. SATA has to be your boot with your IDE as slave. What MB do you have?

thanks SEM, mb is an ASUS P5GD1 Pro

which cable connectors were the problem you found ?

Hi Ian,
The Converter cable was the problem. Just reading up on your mobo, there should'nt be a problem, just check in the bios setting that Raid is not selected.
Does the MB recognise it ok in standard IDE?

Quantum did you find any increase in speed, i bought SATA in Raid in the end. I'm pretty sure that you dont get any speed increase on the IDE drive with the converter??

I didn't notice any difference.
With the sata primary boot drive it caused all sorts of weird problems when I plugged the IDE drive into the motherboard.(asus p4c800deluxe)
As soon as I used the Rockethead ide to sata converter with the ide drive the problems went and haven't had any problems since.

Any Luck Ian??
