I'm 'down sizing'....and leaving MB

Hi,

Just driven XF to Dealers so have included some 'piccies' (pre-PDI etc.).

Sorry, perhaps I'm having a blonde moment but you drove it to the dealer? Did you collect it from the factory?

Wouldn't have thought so as there is still packing around the brakes...:D

I can remember the trackday -- drove both the XF and the XK...gotta say that even though the XK has alu frame etc ..I much prefer the XF...:thumb::thumb:

Hi,

Interior is charcoal and because I changed order from Premium Luxury to portfolio 'spec' my local Dealer sourced appropriate new car from Canterbury (rather tham me order another car from factory etc.) ..but as they c(w)ouldn't transport it on a low loader I drove it back (on trade plates with their driver).

As an aside and remembering that it's new...the trip mpg was 38.2 (over 50 mile trip) so pretty good methinks (for a 271BHP diesel).

I'll post some piccies of interior once it's really mine (suede headlining and contrast stitched charcoal softgrain leather dashboard/door trims etc.).

Hello

Looks nice, the wheels although 20" don't look big? I imagine standard size ones look pretty bad...

where is the camera located for the reversing?

Hope you enjoy the jag

If ever a car traded on its history more than the present or future, its Jaguar.
The XF is all old technology and nothing more than a 30 year old basic design in a new suit.
If you go by looks alone, then its fine, but if you scratch the surface................

Stands by for a severe flaming..................

Totally agree we recently tested an XF (theres a post on here somewhere about it) reminded me of Jaguar in the British Leyland days, we lost more trim on the track than I can remember and not through contact, back panel between the 2 exhausts, would not stay on for love nor money.

30 year old design tarted up, still with inherent build quality problems would be my summation, theres better out there for the money....

Hi Flaneye,

You are of course entitled to your opinion (based on your copious experience of one XF) but I believe the manufacturing plant was modernised @ great cost a few years back and my visit to the working production line certainly didn't put me off.

There are often 'teething' problems with new models but as the model evolves these problems get ironed out and build quality etc. becomes more reliable.

If I wanted a car for the race track I would have kept my RB5.

The 'Jag' 3.0 diesel engine is far superior to the MB 320CDi both in terms of quietness, power, torque, fuel efficiency and CO2 output. Also the ZF gearbox doesn't shunt at low speeds like the 7-G tronic etc. Don't get me wrong I liked both my ML's but both were off the road for periods of time (due to steering (ML270) and transmission leak (ML 320) etc....in fact MB had to loan me a car (E220 CDi estate) for two weeks (as leak picked up by Graeme (GRAV) a few days before my holiday).

I'll reply again in 3 years...either you told me so  ..or...up yours ;)

No problem, as you say each to their own, just my experience of Jags has never been good from the E type right through to the XF, so guess it put me off for life, also was trying to find a good XJ for my FIL and couldn't so ended up with a Volvo S80.

I agree about the XF diesel and box a nice combination and I really hope you enjoy the car, and you quite correct my experience of the XF was based on one demo car. If you do enjoy it and it is without trouble please feel free to tell me where to shove my opinions

regards
Ian

PS I've been down the ML route and would never go there again either, in the 2 years I had mine I'm not sure who had it the most me or the dealer!!!!!!!!

Hi Ian,

I over reacted to the British Leyland comment.

There is some substance to your comments in that although XF came top in AutoExpress survey overall...it came 85th for reliability....but don't these surveys always tend to attract those with 'grievances'?

I put this result down to it being 'new' and that over the past year these problems have been overcome. To see the bare metal chassis being sprayed with a highlighting fluid so that minor imperfections can be sanded down and the laser chamber which checks shell geometry etc. etc. shows me how quality control has moved on.

As for the ML's I enjoyed them both and they both (especially 320CDi) were relatively trouble free but the dog is 13 and I'm not getting younger so it was a choice between new/old E-class and XF.

Cheers,

Hi,

Tried to get a deal on a new 'old' E-class but both p/ex valuation and discount (on a new run out model) was low...Dealer didn't try too hard..so have just signed up for

Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel V6 S Premium Luxury in metallic lunar grey (inc 10% discount :D):

271BHP, 600 Nm torque, CO2 @ 170 = tax band E (£170), 0-60 in 5.9 (probably not) and combined 42 mpg (probably not) :bannana: :bannana: but overall pretty impressive figures :D

How did it go? Took it for a few hours test drive....engine is excellent, almost petrol like and almost imperceptibly into high 2 figures mph ;) ;) ...must be careful  but brakes were very good

Lots of standard goodies: Sat nav, leather: seats/dash/door sills etc., auto (6-speed 'smooth as silk' ZF...no cf low speed Merc 7-g tronic 'jerkiness')/sport mode (includes engine response etc.)/winter mode etc. and keyless start/entry and 20" wheels plus Jaguar 'handshake' ('beating heart' start button, rotating vents, rising gear selector, blue ambient lighting etc....more things to go wrong )

I have no complaints with either of my ML's nor the Dealer but it was time to 'down size'.....and, coincidentally ;), becoming significantly more 'green' ;).

Cheers,

Welcome to the club, 10 years of MBs dealers did it for me. My XF is coming up for its first birthday still going strong I am sure you are going to love yours to bits.

Hi,

FYI

Auto Express are running a 'shoot out' of XF v E-saloon and A5 v E-coupe next week (Issue 1069).

Got to get up to 500 posts somehow ;) ;)

Hi,

Above 'shoot out' reported.

Guess which won...not that it really matters and should it have been v 350CDi not 250CDi perhaps?
