In the market for a 6.2 e63 estate..... Not many out there?

It had full merc history on the online database - last serviced 1k ago.

I don’t think you missed anything much.

£13800 (presumably plus fees?) is about right for the age/mileage, considering it’s sold as seen with no warranty etc. If it was that cheap, someone else would have bid on it :)

With nearly 100k miles how much could it be retailed at, bearing in mind whoever sells it will have to address any faults and warrant the car etc.

Discs, tyres, air suspension faults. Even my old one with very low miles needed a new headlight (£1k) and both rear airbags replaced (£1k) etc.

Fair enough if you’d seen it in the flesh, inspected it, checked the tyres/discs/wheels/service history etc but otherwise a bit of a gamble buying blind.

The right car will turn up :thumb:
Yeah, fees for a £12500 car are £350 so fees of about £400 and compulsory delivery charge of £1/m (min £120). Plus the 'bidder fee' for the company I was going through.

All in about £1k on top of the end price.

Easy to get carried away at auction!

Takes you to almost £15k landed I guess.

I mean I love the excitement of buying cars and it could have been A1 perfect, but it’s not some 3-year old thing that’s just come off lease. A 10 year old 100k miler needs carefully checking over before parting with that sort of money, IMHO.

What’s the top budget? I think I sold my old one a year and a half ago for £24750 and it was like a new car with pretty high spec. I’d expect something with fairly low miles for c.£20k, perhaps a couple of £k less if buying privately.

I spotted one in the wild today EO10 YWH - an MOT check shows a clean bill of health for years... they're out there, just not being sold!

12 to 14k is S211 6.2 territory. S212 6.2 is 15plus territory with FSH and a high specification.

Yeah, I'm braced for that.

there just seems to be none on the market over the last few months.

Your wife said the C class is too small...so let me throw a biased spanner into the works...

Have you considered the ML63? They all come with 507bhp, and surprisingly don't feel like absolute boats around a bend. They're pretty rare too, but seem to be readily available - also there's a lot more space in the engine bay so it's easier to work on...

The AWD is pretty awesome, it seems to be rear wheel biased as I notice in the colder months the rear likes to kick out but then ESP does it's magic and away we go.

I had a play with a CL63, same engine but a bit more bhp, 525 I believe, I was shocked at how he struggled to put the power down while my bloatmobil wafted along and left him in my rear view.

You have a nice saloon already, so mixing it up with a SUV might not be such a bad idea. I use my ML to carry my daughter about (new born) it's amazing how much I can fit into the boot and even with an isofix seat still carry passengers and two kittens when going to visit my mum...

My rwd saloon w212 has no trouble at all putting down the power, you need decent rubber on. Like any high powered rwd car. It's alot of fun and a cracking experience. Rwd is much more fun than an awd vehicle in my experiences also.

You’re going to love this: having the N/A M156 will definitely be an advantage (compared to more modern cars with turbocharged engines) as it doesn’t have the low down torque, which helps get away cleanly with RWD - it’s a much more progressive power and torque delivery.

On UK roads, at UK road legal speeds, in UK weather, I believe that the W164 ML 63 will be in the top 5 fastest standard AMG models supplied new in the UK thanks to that progressive delivery and AWD.

The W213 E 63 and any A45 will certainly be faster, but I believe RWD AMG cars will not pass until after 60 MPH, after which they’ll pull away easily.

Having owned the m113k I totally get the torque of a rwd car. The thing with the less torque M156 it as you say allows all that power to get down on decent rubber. I really liked the monster torque of the 55k. But with the high reving 156 rwd you can be on the edge of a monuver if not taking care. Which adds to the experience and more fun for my liking. On the other hand can be so docile which is such a jekel and Hyde carracter. It's a fantastic engine. Needs to be appreciated by petrol heads or V8 lovers in a lifetime.

The M156 can spin the wheels from standstill from idle very easily so you still need to feed the power in.

Too old school for me. I want something newer than my e61 BMW.

I want an estate but I just dropped a load of money to do the rear subframe on my C350.... I might have to do some overtime this month then....
