Increase Speed Limits - Online Petition

merc85 said:
Seriously as much as id like the Speed limit increased for the odd occasion i do want to drive quicker i really dont think it would be a good idea. Alot of motorists imho are not upto it, and our road network certainly isn't either, Pot holes everywhere and outdated and unsafe signage and road furniture.
I agree to a certain extent hence why I am proposing a larger reform of the relevant legislation. If it means increasing speed then so be it!

thank you for your opinion. For the avoidance of doubt, I do not intend on failing, I never have and never will.

Wow - a unique human being. Do let us know when you succeed.

Oops - you failed to capitalise the first letter of the first word in your sentence...

Oh no, it's the return of the capital police... Haha, grow up. I used to troll when I was teenager!

Who said anything about 90mph? I'm merely campaigning for a review of outdated legislation. As a petrolhead and keen AMG fanatic, this petition was never intended to address any other prevailing issues. Nor do I believe that one petition could ever change the world. As for your assertions around decreased fuel economy, as suggested, if the speed limit is increased proportionally, I doubt you would see any significant drops in fuel economy.

You need to reacquaint yourself with the laws of physics before shouting for the law to be changed. Speak nicely to Dryce - he knows.

technology advances on a daily basis! So an article from nearly 10 years ago is ineligible.

The laws of physics wont change - not in ten years, not in ten million years.

Quite. Only what you want.

Your opinion has been noted. However, I do not intend on kissing anyone's backside I'm afraid. If you do not like the contents of this thread, please, gracefully, excuse yourself. Your understanding of science is rather humorous, as humans, our understanding of scientific laws is rather subjective and is constantly evolving - rendering your annotations null and void.

Am I missing something here?

Well put bluntly - any sign of a 1st class BSc.

Might I point out that the 'Sc' refers to 'science' and your off hand put down of what is basic physics when it comes to working out the effect of speed on emissions output ..... makes me wonder.

(a) whether you have any sort of science qualification

(b) and if in fact you had - what that says about the state of current higher education.

Your patronising, condescending and sarcastic manner has been duly noted. Correct me if I'm wrong here but aren't emissions relative to engine load? Arguably, an engine is under more load on city roads rather than motorways. So unless you are a qualified fellow, I do not see how your opinion should be regarded. What makes you think that you are older than me anyway?

If we can't keep a simple thread on the straight and narrow we certain shouldn't be hooning around at 90mph

MODS - Please close this thread. There is nothing further to add and it seems that some people have severe difficulty accepting and appreciating other people's opinions.

A big thank you to everyone who petitioned and supported the cause!

Do me a favour - embroider the above for me and frame it so I can hang it above my bed. Thanks.

You are more than welcome to do that yourself. Thanks.

Hi MoAMG - I have signed, 70mph is outdated...France has a 80mph limit, unless its raining, and that seems much more sensible. How many signatures do you have?
Thank you James. I created the petition this afternoon and have circa 50 signatures so far! Your support is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that the last thing our public roads need right now are "petrol heads and AMG fanatics" being let loose in "limitless" speed zones.

Funny, the irony is powerful.

It's almost as ironic as how everyone that has opposed this motion so far happens to drive an oil burner...

It's the law black and white(speed wise). Love it or hate it there have to be rules.
