Insurance for E320 CDI

I went with Direct Line for my W203 220cdi. Phoned lots & surfed lots (ScreenTrade.co.uk were quite comprehensive!!)

Interesting I work for a very large insurance company and even with my staff discount it was still cheaper to go with MB insurance and you've guessed it - MB insurance is underwritten by that large insurance company!!!

Give Direct Line a call - plus they insure for business use at no extra cost.

That shows how daft lots of big companys are!
Also, insurance companys always say that they don't make any money from motor insurance, so why are they always offering cheaper deals ?

Does direct line let you specify which repairer you can use or is it like Tesco?

MB insurance is operated by Norwich Union. It's the same cover only a bit more expensive, at least it was when I asked for a quote.

I used to use MB Insurance but changed last year, because of price and the fact that they had stopped giving you a Merc hire car if yours was in the garage for repairs. They also wouldn't let me send my car to the Merc dealer for repairs, only some scrappy workshop.

I am homing in on Direct Line and Saga who are both at about £540. Saga has the edge as it offers new car replacement for 2 years, and my car is in its second year. I will let you all know the final details.

Thanks for all the advise fellers.

I will never understand insurance companies

I'm currently with Esure. Until recently, I had a '96 E320 petrol, premium £511. Just changed to a '00 E320 CDi, premium increased to £602 (extra £22 to pay pro rata as insurance due mid-April).

Renewal from Esure down to £539 :bannana: :bannana: .

Just for interest, trawled through some sites and via Halifax on-line, the premium was £426!!! I will be confirming this over the 'phone in the next day or so so I will update you.

The weird thing is, Esure and Halifax are from the same stable....... !!

just got a quote from Esure, £427 with protected NCD. Thats considerably cheaper than what I am paying now.

I read the policy guidelines and you are also able to have the car repaired at a repairer of your choice. I think I will go with them when I renew in a few weeks.

I'm with esure - they were about £200 cheaper than anyone else - including MB, who were very upset that they couldn't get close. I too have business use at no cost.

Mine's about £420 for the year also with protected NCD:bannana:

MB insurance isnt even close, they quoted me £770

Hi all

Try quoting Northern Ireland as your address BT1 to BT45, I was about to buy an E320cdi and just by chance phoned my insurance company, they said because it was an A/Garde model that they could only cover me until renewal time and would not offer me insurance after that. They would only cover a classic model for £1600.00 fully comp. That is 35yr old with 14 yrs no claims, no convictions or disabilities car kept in garage.
E300TD estate now insured for £875
Be Thankful

Brian

Give Axa-motor.co.uk a try, I'm only 24 with 6years no claims protected and 3 points theve just quoted me £685 for a W203 C220CDI Classic SE and that includes business Use. a reduction of £300 on last years premium! :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

I just can't compete with you guys.

£340 fully comp any driver

Sigh.

I should add that its not my ins. co. - it's the GY* postcodes which mean you can leave the keys in alll day. In fact when I had a Series III Landrover they rusted into the ignition.

Have you tried Frizzel (Liverpool & Victoria) tell them you have a cccccccaravan its worth a discount. I,m still in the 300,s with my slk230. Another is Lloyds TSB they are Churchill but cheaper. Its a case of taking the introduction discount then shopping around every year.

A caravan..............with an SLK............

Now that would be a sight!

Well I decided not to go with Saga as I had claimed in 2002 for damage done by a slate falling of next doors roof, they would not let me keep my NCD which is 9 years.

So went with Direct Line.

£536.55

Includes:-

£150 Excess, £50 for windscreen.
No Voluntary Excess
Protected NCD 9 Years.
Legal Protection
Guaranteed Hire Car if mine in Garage.
Use Abroad
Uses Mercedes approved garage and MB parts.

Good grief,

You boys pay a lot for your insurance don't you??

My CLK320 is insured through Tesco Insurance. I have it on Business Class 1 (the worst - commercial selling) as I use it as my company car and do about 25,000 miles a year around the country.

Price = £480 fully comp

Guy

Also have found Tesco to be the cheapest for me the last few years - (although not that cheap, Guy !!) . . . guess my postcode is not the best at the moment, even though its garaged at night.

Tesco seem to have no objection to subtle modifications either - which I like :)

Having read the other stuff on this thread about the repairers situation though, I may be reviewing things come renewal time.

S.
